Sick and nursing
So I have a really high fever and was sent home from work. I took an extra strength Tylenol. I nurse my son morning and night only. Can I give him breast milk if I take anything? What's safe to take? I'm thinking of pumping so he's not close to me tonight but is it ok to give him my breast milk if I'm sick?

Re: Sick and nursing
Yeah there's really few instances that breastfeeding is a problem. I try not to take too much medication while nursing, but I know Motrin and Tylenol are okay. I've taken both. Not sure about antibiotics, though. I nursed DD while I was really sick with a cold and once with a stomach bug and she never got sick from me.

Thanks! I do remember in the hospital they wanted to give me pain medication and I never took anything. I would think my breastmilk would be helpful in case he was exposed to what I have but wasn't sure.

Sick and nursing
It's ok for him to nurse. In fact it's good bc he'll get the antibodies of what you're fighting. Tylenol is ok in bm.

Yes, I would just nurse as usual. Motrin/Advil or tylenol are fine to take.

I've nursed my DS through everything including 4 stomach bugs. There's a huge benefit since he'll get your antibodies! No reason not to nurse. I've taken Motrin will not issue. Most drugs are fine. If you're concerned check the infant risk site.

Re: Sick and nursing
Once when BF I needed an AB and was stressing and the doctor was like basically unless you're taking heavy chemo meds you're fine.

Nurse nurse nurse. No need to keep him away from you. Tylenol and motrin are totally fine, if you need meds ZPack is good, amoxil, there are tons of meds. Check the app LactMed it's super user friendly. But really the best thing you can do for him and for your supply is nurse when you can!
