really frustrated with my doctor's office

so I called to see if I could speak with a nurse due to the lump under my arm and also because I've been having some shortness of breath. But because this is a new doctor, and I haven't seen her yet, they won't talk to me about it, and instead say I have to go to primary care about it! Is this a normal thing?

Sadly I think so. I remember I was very sick at the beginning of my first pregnancy and the DR recommended my primary first since I hadn't been seen yet. I guess it's a way for them to prevent getting bogged down in "non-PG related appointments."

Hope you feel better!

Honestly, it seems fairly normal to me. I'm no doctor, but it seems a bit early for those issues (at least the shortness of breath) to be pregnancy related. I'd definitely make an appt with your primary doctor and go from there.

Whomever I spoke with said it's for liability purposes, which I get, but they also won't see me sooner than 9 weeks, which is annoying.

The shortness of breath is definitely pregnancy related - it started basically as soon as I got my BFP. I'm pretty sure my sister had it too when she was pregnant.

frustrating, but I do believe they are correct. This is more something your primary would help you with. If you have a good relationship with your primary, maybe they will run a couple of betas for you. I know My old primary did a pregnancy test on me once because I had to have a heart test and they needed to be sure I wasn't pregnant. If you are going in for something that is potentially hormonal they should at least do some initial blood work to check your hormones which I would think could include a beta.

Shortness of breath sounds like it could be more anxiety related. I had quite a bit of shortness of breath TTC and after being pregnant with DD1. All anxiety. My SIL has it too.

Shortness of breath wouldn't be caused by the pregnancy at this point. As others have said, it's most likely anxiety.

With dd, I had it so bad that I took 2 days off of work and saw a pulmonologist around 7/8 weeks. They ran every test in the book before politely telling me it was anxiety.

Yes that sounds normal. I was 5w with my first and hadn't seen the ob yet when I had excruciating pain in my side. I went straight to my primary. I didn't even think to contact the ob.

See, I had a UTI very early on (before my first appointment) and my OB's office was happy to see me. They also ran betas/progesterone checks when I asked. Never questioned me. And, when I started spotting at 6 weeks they had me come in immediately and saw my progesterone was dropping. Then sent me for more checks to make sure it was improving.

I think I was there like 3 times before my first appointment- they probably thought I was a gigantic PITA but they smiled and reassured me the whole way through.
