Breast Pump Question

I am planning to order a pump since my insurance covers it. Should I bring it with me to the hospital? or should I just use theirs? With my first I had no clue what I was doing but this time I want to be more prepared.

If you're planning on breastfeeding get la leches book the womanly art of breastfeeding. It was such an amazing resource for me the first time around! You don't need to read the whole thing just the sections you need to at that time. As for when to pump it depends if you plan on exclusively pumping, I did not so I started pumping at like 2 weeks, just once in the morning when my supply was higher.

I would use the one at the hospital. Huntington has Medela Symphonys and they are fantastic. They gave me all the accessories and a pump to keep in my room while there.

Just use the hospital pumps. They should give you everything you need. However, unless you plan to exclusively pump not sure why you'd do it that early. Dd2 was in the nicu and not allowed any milk at first so I had no choice. I will add a hands free pumping bra was a lifesaver at the hospital.

Same, unless you are exclusively pumping, definitely don't need to pump that early (unless another situation like the NICU situation mentioned above). I exclusively breastfeed LO and didn't start pumping until 6 weeks in - once supply has regulated a bit - and even then, only did it once in the morning to build up a bit of freezer supply. Granted I was off work for 4 months...if you have a shorter leave, may want to start a little sooner, but not needed at the hospital unless you want them to show you how to use it.

With my first I tried to breastfeed and got frustrated and started pumping the first week and was getting a good amount of milk. So this is all new to me lol. I will try to breastfeed again and go from there. Now I get it my friend was pumping at the hospital and now I realized because she was a preemie and in the NICU....thank you ladies...I will hold off until she arrives.

Yeah, I had to pump in the hospital because I had a 32 week preemie in the nicu who could not BF. You never know. I guess I would not worry about it if I were you. If needed, I'm sure your hospital can provide great pumps. Hopefully you won't need it though.
