New to running- kids 1K fun run and 5K run
DH and I are new to running and I have now done a few 5ks alone and one with him. We would love to run as a family and do runs that include a 1k kids fun run. How do you work out the 5k run with the kids? After their 1k, do you bring them along on the 5k and make it a run/walk? Trying to understand the logistics of how this can work being we don't have anyone to pick them up after their 1k.
ETA- my kids are 4 and 6

You'd need to make sure the race would allow them on the course if you were going that route.
I don't bring bring my kids to run unless I have someone to stay with them while I run. If we don't have someone to help out, then only one of us runs. I wouldn't bring my 5 year old along for a 5k - i think it's a bit far, and it wouldn't be fun for me.

I do not bring my DS on runs with me. I ran a Veterans 5K and my DH took him on the family run.
If DH wanted to do the 5K we would have to get an adult to do the family run with him. They generally overlap from my experience so you would not be able to wait for them to finish their run.

If you don't have anyone to watch the kids, I'm not sure how you'll both be able to run. I could run races with the kids in a jogging stroller when they were younger. Now, my kids love the fun runs. DH stays with them while I run my race and then we watch the kids run. I've also run a 5k race with my almost 8 year old. It's probably easiest for you to take turns signing up for races at this point.
