Adzenys for ADHD
Hi everyone, I wanted to know if anyone's child is taking the new ADHD medication Adzenys. My daughter is 6 and just diagnosed with ADHD which was not a surprise. She has had a really rough year so far with her impulsivity and her behavior in school. I am not one to jump on meds and this has been a very difficult decision for me and my husband but we need to try something to see if it helps her. The Dr. prescribed Adzenys and its kind of similar to Adderal. I have cried for days and I am looking for someone to tell me it will be ok. We are going to start the meds on Friday and I can't believe how I feel so broken inside. Is this even Normal? I don't want my DD to struggle in school and just want to help her. Some days she is really bad and then there are some days she is so good. The good days are the reason I feel bad giving it to her. I really am hoping there is another mom that can help me know it will be ok.

Adzenys for ADHD
We do not take that particular medication but do take medication for anxiety and impulse control. I personally had no issue with giving her the medication. There is no way she can function without it on a day to day basis. Yes she had days prior to medicine that were fantastic but even those fantastic days occurred because of certain supports I put in place for her.
The way I look at it is that if she was sick I would give her medicine to help her so why wouldn't I give her medicine for this. My only advice is that all medicine reacts to children differently and you (and your doctor) need to play with dosage and different types to get the right fit. Don't get discouraged if this medicine is not the right one as there are many others to try.

My son does not take this. He takes focalin for ADHD. It took many medications to find the right one and right dosage. I was hesitant, and tried many other routes before medicating him. It was the best decision. He can totally function better, and is less impulsive. Like the Karen said, certain kids react differently to different medications. What may work for one, may not work for another. Good Luck, and keep us updated

Re: Adzenys for ADHD
Thanks ladies! SO I started my daughter on Black Friday. It has been a rough few days getting her adjusted. The last 2 days though she is fine for about 3 hours after taking it and then she just kind of crashes? No emotions, doesn't want to do anything, no smiles. She just looks sad. My daughter is usually so outgoing and happy and to see her in this Funk for 4 to 5 hours makes me so sad. I don't know if this is normal or not since its our 1st time medicating. Today is the 1st time she is going to school on it. I have not told the teacher as Im curious if she will notice anything. This is so hard.

How did your daughter do in school? My son is 5 and has ADHD. We have not given him medication yet. Did you talk to the doctor about her mood swing from the medication?

My SO's son takes this too. He used to take Stratera. I think he does much better on focalin. Our only thing that we've notice is lack of appetite now.

Re: Adzenys for ADHD
You need to give it time for her to adjust to the medication. Many of my students are on ADHD medications and when they switch it takes them a few days to regulate.
If she is a total zombie, I would definitely talk to your doctor about it.
The number one complaint I hear from kids is that it affects their appetite.
I will also say that I can 100% tell if students do not take their meds. Mondays are usually the worst since most of my students do not take them over the weekend.

Re: Adzenys for ADHD
UPDATE: #1
She is doing Amazing! Her appetite is back! She is behaving in school so far and doing her work. Her handwriting is so much neater. Since Adzenys is a stimulant and you can stop it on the weekends. We chose not to start and stop it as we feel she needs it to get through dance class on the weekends. So we did continue to give it to her this weekend. Not sure I want to see her have a hard time on Mondays.
Only thing the teacher and I noticed last week is that she does get emotional at times over minor things. But its over quickly and she moves on.
Hoping this week goes just as well.
I can't believe my daughter is actually coloring in lines, reading books and not jumping from one activity to the next.
Thank you everyone. I am so glad I gave it time to work. I was ready to quit after seeing how she was the 1st few days.
Not sure if this good behavior will continue and the meds will continue to help, but for now I will take it one day at a time.
