Punta Cana with kids and Zika??
My brother is getting married in March in DR and my ds is the ring bearer. He will be 9 1/2 by then. Exdh has reservations about him going because of the long term effects zika may have on children and when they are older and want kids. He knows I will do everything in my power to protect our son, but he wants to see an infectious disease specialist to get their opinion. I find this extreme but whatever. Thoughts? Would you bring your dc to DR? We're not going off the resort if it makes a difference

I would call and ask about the mosquito situation on their beach, post on tripadvisor, etc. It's probably windy if it's right on the water, and there may not even be any mosquitos. We went to PR and while it's infested with Zika inland, we didn't see a single one at our resort.

I wouldn't go to DR if I were pregnant... but the whole Caribbean has Zika... and he's 9.
Personally, yes, I'd go.
Aruba had Zika last year and I went with my one year old (and Yes, there were mosquitoes that bit only me the whole time because I am the biggest mosquito attractant known to mankind).

I always recommend talking to your doctor when it comes to the infectious disease concern when traveling anywhere.
While we can all tell you what we would or wouldn't do, most of us are not health professionals.
If you were pregnant or trying to get pregnant within the next year I would have no problem saying that I do not recommend it. Long term effects on children are not something that I am familiar with though.

We were just in DR with my 7&6 year olds. I spoke with my pediatrician before going. He told us to use DEET mosquito repellent. We had no issues at all
