Didn't that Nickelodeon Resort open recently? Just based on that alone I would go Disney Cruise. New resorts need some time to work out service issues etc. Disney has service down to a science.

Which would you choose?
When my DD was 5, I would have chosen Nick over Disney. That was all she ever paid attention to.

Re: Which would you choose?
Never did Nick, but we went on a Disney Cruise last month and it was amazing!! Food, activities, etc. They treat you like royalty!
My boys are 7 and 5 and we went with friends who's kids are close in age and they loved the kids club. Lots to do and still time to relax.
Also, when I think of all inclusive I also think of drinking. The food on the cruise is obviously included. We did bring wine and beer on the ship. Your allowed some. We also would get the drink of the day so it didn't wind up being too much with the drinking and we do enjoy it.
Also, on a cruise you can go to a few beautiful islands. I haven't had the best experience on the DR and the food on those are usually eh.

ETA - my kids watch nick more, but they loved seeing the characters, meeting the avengers, princesses, etc.

Did you sail out of NY? Was the water choppy at all in November? That's when we are planning for in 2017.

Yes. It was a repositioning cruise so left out of NY Saturday and went to 2 other islands and ended in Puerto Rico Friday. Not at all. It was perfect, Fall weather. Calm and nice. We had light jackets on with jeans and was fine.

Re: Which would you choose?
That's a toughie!! We have been on 3 Disney Cruises, and booking a 4th, and they have been AMAZING! Especially their private island.
The Nick Resort in DR looks AMAZING, especially the flat suite with the pool right outside your patio door! I was looking into booking it recently and the price isn't bad. It's not "in your face" Nickelodeon stuff either, which is nice!!!

Yes!! I'm so torn! We can do 7d,6n at nick including air for less than a 4 night cruise on Disney dream but we just love Disney so much. I've always wanted to go to castaway cay! I may have to leave it to a coin toss and let fate decide. ??

I feel like the only one on the board who loves cruises and loves Disney who did not like the Disney Cruise. I wasn't impressed by the private island either.

Castaway is amazing, we got a cabana this past Summer and it seriously made the day. LOVED it!! We did a double dip last year with 2 stops at Castaway, and that was awesome also. But, it IS expensive. 7 days at Nick would be nice. Good luck with your choice, and let us know which you choose!!!

Which cruise did you go on? It's very rare to hear someone not enjoy a Disney cruise, but I guess it happens

We have a friend who just spent the winter break at the Nick resort in DR. They raved so much about it that im inclined to book it as well. She literally went on and on about how amazing the activities, food and service were.

Went on the Magic out of Miami. I have gone on multiple other cruises (Carnival and Norwegian) both out of the US (multiple ports) and Europe. We started going with the kids when they were each about 8 months old... it's very easy to cruise with small kids and we find it relaxing. I was very excited about Disney and we go to Disney world about once a year.
It was sadly, the most expensive, had the worst food and the worst service of all the cruise lines. It also felt crowded in comparison to other lines (we went off peak, but it seemed everyone on the boat was aimed at the same activity). The private island was similar to the ones other lines have except the water wasn't as clear (maybe it was the day). I guess I was hoping that there would be Captain Hook or Jake or more Disney at the island... The shows were nice for the kids (but the other cruise lines had amazing things as well), the pirate party was a highlight and my little girl loved wearing all her princess dresses every day, but we would not go again... we instead go to Disney and then a regular cruise or beach resort (next on the agenda is California with a stop at Disneyland which will come out to be much less even though we will stay at a 5 star resort).
The only thing I could think is maybe the kids club is truly excellent. We don't use kids clubs (we spend our limited vacation together with the kids).

The kids clubs ARE amazing. We spend our vacations together also, but my daughter always goes to several programs in the club. Very interactive, and characters come in to play with them. Truly awesome experiences. We also do the open house family activities in there and they have been nothing but great. We have never been on the Magic though, only the Dream, which is a twice as large as the Magic (and Wonder).
Tons of characters come out on the Island, but you are right, no Jake or Hook. Jake is on the ship on Pirate night, and Jack Sparrow replaces Hook on the island. Our last cruise, dinner service took FOREVER. I was beyond annoyed with that. I don't like to sit for dinner for 2 hours with multiple courses. We like to eat and run! So that is really my only complaint with them. The two times before that we had no issues with speed of service though.

I would do Nick. I rather do 7 nights versus 4.

Re: Which would you choose?
These are very different vacations. I would ask yourself what you really hope to enjoy/accomplish on the trip. The Karisma Resorts brand is EXCELLENT and while the Nickelodeon resort is new, the brand reputation is strong and I have several clients booked for that location.
Are your kids very into Disney? Will you be sending them to the kids club?
Cruising out of NYC is great, the weather in the fall is hit or miss and you may have some cold/choppy weather to deal with.
What kind of activities are you looking to do? Do you want to see multiple locations, do you want to hang out a the pool/beach. Will you be going on excursions?

Re: Which would you choose?
We love the Disney cruise but the new Nick resort looks great too. I don't think you can go wrong with either.
I personally would do the Nick resort but we've done the Disney cruise twice already.
