What do I actually need to take to the hospital when I give birth?

I know I overpacked with my first. I think I packed a whole suitcase. For my second, I think I took toiletries and a change of clothes only.

Honestly, nothing.
I had a small bag with my shampoo & conditioner & hair dryer. I brought an outfit for baby & some pants for me. I could have easily survived without any of that.
Hospital has everything.

Robe. I was in a gown for 2 days (couldn't shower and had the pee tube in)

The robes all had those boob cutouts. Needed to cover those suckers up lol

Outfit for the baby to go home in, outfit for you to go home in, your own pjs , shampoo , conditioner , hairbrush , makeup , comfy robe or sweatshirt.

I brought my own pillow with me when I gave birth to my second child. I was so miserable with the hospital pillow the first time around.

Just toiletries, comfy pjs, coming home sweats for me and outfit for baby, and a hairbrush (forgot that with dd1 and it was a nightmare!). I also brought an aiden & anais swaddle blanket bc I find the hospital ones too small and I could never re-swaddle. But I had 2 c-sections and was there 4-5 days...

My son was preemie. I spent 12 hours at the hospital and I needed nothing.

Toiletries, comfy pj pants, nursing tanks, hoodies or other open tops, comfy undies, phone and charger, I did wish I had an extension cord bc my phone was barely useable while plugged in. Going home outfit for DC. Being there 5 days I wished I had my own pillow but I survived. Large refillable water bottle, chapstick, snacks (I was famished 24/7 in the beginning).

Slippers. totally forgot about that.

I will also take my ipad or maybe my laptop.

Also flip flops! For the shower!

ETA: I wore my nursing bra to the hospital. And a robe was a lifesaver. I didn't change out of the gown the first day because I was so tired and sore so the robe saved the little dignity I had left while I shuffled around the room and down the hall.

I liked having these:

For when I didn't feel like getting out of bed but wanted to freshen up my mouth a bit. My mouth felt so dry and gross during and after birth

I also brought some of those Listerine tabs that dissolve on your tongue
