Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
Just trying to distract myself while waiting for our first appointment which feels like a LIFETIME away.
If you didn't find out the sex of your baby beforehand - talk me into it!
We knew DD was a girl and I was really disappointed initially (literal tears hahah) because I always imagined myself as a boy Mom.
This time feels so different. I would be happy with either another girl or a boy. Really want to try and hold out.
If you were surprised, did you ever wish you had found out in advance? The only logistical thing I can think of is the clothing situation.
Editorial note: OF COURSE, above all, I JUST WANT A HEALTHY BABY, but it's fun to daydream about these things.

Re: Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
I didn't find out with my first two--and I never regretted it. Sure, I was curious, but I was able to hold out. The surprise and all that anticipation was really would got me through labor lol. I'm now pregnant with my 3rd and could find out in a couple of weeks when I take the MaternT21 test, but I think I want to keep it a surprise again. My DH would like to know, but I think will ultimately let me decide.

Re: Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
We were Team with both of our boys and will find out in the delivery room again. I ended up with c-sections and DH was the one who told me that we had a son each time. It was such a special moment and while it's exciting and special no matter when you find out, I don't think it would've been quite the same if we had found out earlier. I didn't feel any less of a bond with the baby just because I didn't know whether I was carrying a boy or girl. While I had enough gender neutral clothes to get by, I got plenty of boy clothing as gifts once each of my kids were born. It's a personal decision, but I have no regrets and would always choose being Team .

Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
Thanks! I really hope I can manage to wait, the thrill of finding out in the delivery room has got to be insane but I'm so impatient!

Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
I found out with my first, a girl, and then not with my second. It's easier I think since you have the big stuff already and having a kid st home already serves as a huge distraction. I barely remembered I was pregnant half the time lol.
I bought a few neutral pieces of clothing and had a few already. I figured we'd get more as gifts once the baby arrived and figure it out from there. I did but a boy hat so that I could but a neutral going home outfit and add a blue or pink hat.
In the end, dc2 came early under some crazy circumstances. We didn't have a girl name picked out, didn't pack a bag for the hospital, and were more worried about the babies health than the sex.
It was weeks before I realized I had no memory of telling our family it was a girl and dh told me he didn't think I was there when he told them over the phone bc I was still in the OR and they were all anxiously waiting to hear if she was okay.
It definitely wasn't the big moment I thought it would be but I don't have any regrets and if we ever lost our minds and had a third I'd do it again.

Re: Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
i'm having the same problem. If i was having one baby, I was not finding out, when it was twins I still wasn't finding out. Now that I know it's triplets, I feel like I should, but a lot of people are saying don't lol. I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
The babies will most likely be premature and so I have time to shop and get baby clothes but I love the idea of finding out and having a gender reveal party! lol.

Re: Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
I am a mom of 4 boys.
For the 1st 3 we didn't find out and I loved the anticipation at the end and all of the guessing.
We found out with the 4th and I found it very anti-climatic. We didn't find out from the blood test because I thought it would be more exciting at the sonogram. Once the sonogram tech came in the room she said do you know what we are having?. I responded no but we want to find out today. So she opens the chart and blurts out boy. Then she proceeds to ask what we have at home and I say 3 boys and then she realizes she was an ... for just blurting it out and says oh I guess we should double check the sonogram. We wanted to find out on the screen seeing him.
I was much happier with the surprise at the end then some tech blurting it out.
Hold on for the surprise!

Re: Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
Congratulations!!! We have 2 DSs and love them to pieces. We found out both times. With DS1 we found out bc it was so exciting, and absolutely do not regret finding out! We loved every moment, picking out 1 name, getting his room ready, buying all the fun baby clothes and stuff, etc. DS2 we found out bc if it was a girl, it would be our last baby, and I wanted to cherish every moment of my last pregnancy. However, now due with #3, we aren't finding out (if I can convince DH who is kind of on board)! Our reasoning is Ive had the experience of during the sonogram- "and theres his little thing, its a boy!" with both of them. If we are having another boy I would be happy bc our 2 DSs are best buddies already, and all their cousins are boys and best friends. However, I didn't want that moment again on the sonogram of hearing the same thing, its a boy", this time Id like to hear it when he/ she is born. Will power is also strong this time since Ive found out before and I would love to experience a different moment.
Good luck with your choice! You can do it if its what you want!

Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
We have two boys and were team green for both.
For DS 1 - I didn't know how I would make it without knowing and it did get a little hard at the end but, it was worth the wait.
We were debating finding out with DS 2 but, after thinking about what we had to prep for - we decided to wait (we had DS 1's hand me downs and someone gave us a bunch of girl hand me downs, we didn't need to paint, etc).
At our 20 week scan for DS 2 the tech did write it down and put it in an envelope for us but, we never opened it until after DS 2 was born.

Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
We didn't find out either time and it was such a great experience. My DS was 5.5 when his sister was born and throughout the whole pregnancy he kept saying he wanted a sister. We kept telling him it could be a brother...but the look on his face when he found out it was a girl was priceless. Us too! Hold out!

I'm so excited for you!! Just had to throw my two cents in as a preemie mom. Shop now!!!! It is SO hard with your baby in the NICU. Do as much as early as you can! Plus I can't wait to hear what you're having!

Re: Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
Found out with number 1, didn't with number 2. Though it was nice to find out with number 1 I found team green to be soooo much more fun both along the way and when we finally got to meet her! Team green was the best!

Re: Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
My two cents: If you truly think you will not suffer from gender disappointment, then wait. But, if you think you may be upset at the sex of the child, then find out now so you can work out your disappointment before the baby is born.

Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
Honestly everyone is going to have a different view on this. I am a super neurotic planner type and my DH is super laid back but funny enough I wanted to be surprised and he wanted to know. Our compromise was we found out for baby #1 and baby #2 was a surprise. If you ask *ME*, I thought waiting was the best and if we had a 3rd I would want to wait. If you ask DH, he would tell you he hated waiting and would want to know ASAP.
I did not experience gender disappointment but I suspected that I would have felt that I probably would be more inclined to wait. I think it's harder to be disappointed when you have the baby here and in your arms if that makes any sense.

Re: Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
We found out, we went back and forth but when we had the opportunity to know, we decided to find out. We found out right before Christmas, so it was fun to announce it to the families when everyone was together (we love OOS so we facetimed my mom and my grandmother was the one to announce it)

Re: Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
With our first we did not find out. We were team green until delivery. It was ROUGH! LOL I really wanted to know but we didn't have room for a nursery in our old apartment because it was a small 1bdrm. This time around we have a son and extra bedroom for baby. So we wanted to find out asap! LOL We are so glad we did because we are having a girl. We were able to create a nursery for the first time and it is pink and sparkly.

Re: Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
I'm in the minority but I didn't like being team green. With my first we found out. I suffered slightly with ppd. With my second we were team green and it caused me so much anxiety as it got closer and whole I was in labor. I also felt it was harder to bond right away. Not sure if it's also because I tend to suffer from ppd though.

Re: Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
I have two kids and I did not want to find out with either one. I just loved the moment in the delivery room with DH hearing the gender announced by the doctor. And then having DH tell the family in the waiting room.
My sister could not understand why I waited. She found out with her two because "she's a planner".
I loved having it be a surprise. If we go for number 3 it will be another surprise.
ETA: Since I had the Materit21 tests done, my doctors office knew the sex. My chart had a sticky note on it saying I did not want to know the sex :)

Re: Deciding whether or not to find out the sex
The first time I didn't want to know by at the 16 week sonogram I saw too much! :-O And then after that i HAD to know so they confirmed it at the 20w sono. This time I think I want to know so I can prepare. If it's another boy I really need some time to come up with a name and for a girl I can have fun shopping for some girl clothes and stuff.
