Pushing Breastfeeding

Hi Ladies.

How bad is Good Sam at pushing breastfeeding? I dont plan to do it and don' want to hear no BS either LOL.

I can't tell you about Good Sam because I was at Southside but I will say this- no matter what hospital you are at- YOU are the boss.
Do not let anyone push you around. Shut them down early, shut them down often, be a b!tch if they force you to be a b!tch, but take no shit.


I remember I had it all planned out in my head of what I would say if anyone DARED question me on not breastfeeding. I had the whole script in my mind going in.
Luckily they were amazing and asked me during labor and I said NO! Very firmly. They noted it on the chart and that was the last I ever heard the words breast or feeding again for my whole stay.

Now I don't know if it's because I have a SERIOUS resting bitchface and nobody thought to mess with me or if Southside at the time wasn't pushing it, or if my nurses just happened to all be super cool, but it was a none issue.

You are in charge of you and your baby- make that clear from day 1 and you will be fine.
Tell them what you said here- I don't want to hear no BS.

I just gave birth at st Charles to twins and both were in the NICU. One had a feeding tube. I pumped and gave formula (had no choice they didn't let me see my babies for 10 hours post c section because I couldn't get out of the bed until 9am) I had to give formula they can't starve and still made me feel awful for not exclusively pumping (like I literally couldn't get anything the first 3 days and my one twin refuses to latch. Another mom in the NICU said she wasn't breastfeeding and they were pretty mean to her not the same hospital but still catholic health services. I would just plan what you will say now. Some of those nurses really drove me nuts and I wish I was more firm with them

Also, I didn't deliver at Good Sam, but I barely saw the nurses. They came in when I was brought to my room and once in a while until I was discharged. The aids came in more often, but they were just checking vital signs and asking how much baby was eating and how many diapers baby made.
I was asked if I was BF (I was) and they told me about the lactation consultant. But, most of the time I was alone with the baby.

Not Good Sam, but I did have one nurse give me a hard time at NSUH. I was nice to her at first but when she kept harping on it I had some not so nice things to say to her.

Most of the nurses just said "ok" and that was it. I do feel like I was asked repeatedly.

Just stand your ground and remember your kid, your rules, period. Whatever you do, do not say "maybe" or the next thing you know you'll have an army of la leche loonies in your room and they'll refuse to give your formula.

I gave birth at good Sam twice and the lactation consultant is very nice. They will ask but are very respectful in my experience

dont let the nurses make you feel bad. I always tell my patient most hospitals push breast feeding and keeping the baby all day/night in the room. I tell them just to say no. Including to having the baby day/night. Its ok !!!
