Republican introduces one-sentence bill to end Department of Education
Who can explain to me what this would mean? I'm really not good with political and government stuff but I want to learn and be more educated about a lot of these issues.

I mentioned in the Devos post that this is why they passed her - to dismantle federal DOE

Re: Republican introduces one-sentence bill to end Department of Education
As a public school teacher, I'm not sure I have a problem with this. In my tenure, I have seen some of the most misguided top-down mandates come unfunded from Washington, and then states find themselves scrambling to put the money together to comply. Make no mistake - the scourge of standardized testing that now dominates curricula nationally started at that federal level. When it comes to schools, I do think smaller is better.
What concerns me is the question of who will enforce federal statutes like IDEA. It can't simply be that if you have the misfortune of being dyslexic or autistic in a poorer state like Mississippi or Hawaii that you just aren't entitled to a "free and appropriate education."
