I'm not sure if I should take my DD to one? She is 3 and was diagnosed with ASD from a psychologist from the agency we used for EI. What benefits are there from seeing a dev ped? What made you see one?

A little background, DD is 3 now and was diagnosed about 1 year ago. She doesn't have some of the characteristics of autism (ie stims, repetitive behaviors) but she is delayed socially and has poor eye contact.

I question the diagnosis but I know there is something there. I don't necessarily want the diagnosis removed because she gets what she needs with it.

Should I schedule an appt now? I know it takes months to be seen. Or wait a while so she has an appt before her transition to CSE?

I would make an appointment now just in case. I just made an appointment with Cohen's yesterday and it is in November. If you feel you don't need it, you can always cancel it, but I think it's better to at least get the paperwork and fill it out and then decide. Good luck!!

Yes! Definitely see a developmental pediatrician. This is someone who will know your child and monitor their progress as they grow - someone outside of the school district. They can also review your IEP and advise if there is enough services and make other suggestions. They are a great resource to have as a part of your child's team. And it is tedious with all the paperwork to get an appt at Cohen's - but you only have to do that once - and it does take 4 - 6 months to get an appointment, but worth it once you find the right doctor.

Not sure where exactly you are located but I was able to get a shorter wait time with Cohen's because I wanted to go to the Babylon location. I made an appointment for 2 months out and they called me the following week and moved it up to the next week. We see Dr Krevskaya and she is so patient and kind with my son. And she really gives me good tips and strategies for dealing with him.

That's good to know. We are in Wantagh so that could be an option. I called Cohens and they are sending me a packet I need to fill out and then they will call me to make an appt.
