ICE raids

I was at my neighbors house yesterday. She has a nanny who is here from a South American country, has her working papers, and has 2 children who were born here, and go to school here. They are American citizens. She does not have her green card. My neighbor was in tears, apparently on Thursday evening, the nanny went with her children to the local grocery store, and instead of doing her food shopping, she FLED the parking lot. Because there were cops outside of the store asking people for their papers, and taking them away if they did not have them. She has working papers but they were at home. Who takes those with them to pick up their kids from school and then go grocery shopping?? This was in Long Island City. This poor woman is terrified to leave her apartment.
As I posted last week, I am against open borders. I believe people should come here legally, but I also believe this country needs to make the path to citizenship easier. You can't just deport thousands of people without giving them a CHANCE.
In any case, my main reason for posting this is because several other posters have said something and been shot down. How is it that ALL of these people are lying or exaggerating? Whether you agree with it or not, it is happening. Stop telling people that they, or their friends, are making shit up.

I'm not accusing anyone of lying but people are reacting without knowing the facts. This is creating a situation where any normal police activity gets blown into a full blown raid.

The facts are ICE is conducting targeted raids like they have been for the past few years. Because of the current administration, all of a sudden illegals who previously felt had nothing to fear from these raids, are afraid. However, the rumors and fear-mongering that is occurring is making the situation much worse.

I find it strange that not one major news organization is reporting supermarket raids. Not one person has posted video on social media. Not one legitimate immigrant organization has made any kind of statement. Every story is annectdotal. Not one person is saying "yes. I have the facts and the video. I stayed to see what was happening."

Not one person has come out and said they were arrested during one of these raids merely for being in the country illegally.

All the these stories about ICE raids do is create fear and panic which does a disservice to everyone.

The reasons the other posters are being shot down is because they are jumping to conclusions without knowing the facts. And I don't want you to take this in the wrong way but are you sure the nanny understood what she was seeing? There are so many of these rumors right now and all of them are unfounded that it's really hard to believe any of it.
