Cancer medication
Wanted to ask on here to see if anyone had any experience. A family member has been fighting stomach cancer for 4 years. It has spread to his liver. His Drs have stopped chemo and want him on a pill form of chemo. It's supposed to help for the next couple of weeks/months. The family went to fill the prescription and just found out after insurance it's $3k a week. They are looking into copay assistance, grants and hospice help to see who can assist with the cost as they can't afford it.
Anyone have any advice?

Talk to the finance person at the oncologists office to find funding to help. The pharmaceutical company that makes the drug might also provide monies. Went thru this with MIL and FIL. Can't remember the name of the foundation that gave grant money to FIL, but that was only 10K for a year, and he burned thru it in 5 months.

My dad gets some of his cancer medicine from Canada - he found that it was a lot more affordable.

Is be being treated at a hospital? I'm not sure about private practice oncologists but hospitals can usually provide grant money.
As a pp said, pharma companies will almost always provide patient assistance. Your relative should be able to get this info from their doctor.

Yes, at Sloan Kettering but he is at home. The dr has not been much help. They have been filling out applications and trying to find out what they can via google.

Re: Cancer medication
This is the group that gave FIL his grant : Patient Advocate Foundation
Contact them and see what can be done. They may be able to guide you as well.
This group may be able to help as well : Cancer Care They gave FIL money towards transportation to and from the oncologists office. Not sure what else they can help with.
Reach out to the pharma company that makes this drug.
Good luck.

Re: Cancer medication
I was able to get my fathers meds covered by the drug manufacturer. Also there's probably a financial person or social worker at Sloan that may be able to help. Good luck
