Pancreatitis
My dad is in ICU and suffering from pancreatitis and dehydration. His organs were shutting down before he was brought to the hospital last night. He is in stable condition, but I'm told he is still disoriented, and confused. He lives in another state, so I can't speak to him or see him right now. Has anyone dealt with this condition in such a severe form and recovered? Of course googling is scary, so I had to step away from that.

Pancreatitis
I was hospitalized this summer with complications from gall bladder surgery. I ended up with pancreatits. I was not dehydrated, however my condition was severe. I ended up spiking fevers, which was concerning to the drs. Recovery will take time.
Please pm me if you want to ask ? Or talk

Thanks ladies....I just spoke to the nurse, and he is now in step down ICU, and is also on medication for detoxing so that is a challenge (he is an alcoholic). They are treating the pancreatitis with antibiotics, he is hydrated now, and of course he has other issues like fatty liver and a messed up gallbladder from being an alcoholic. She said he is hallucinating from the detoxing...but, he is "okay" right now. I wish he would get it together! Exactly a year ago he was practically dying from alcohol and not eating at all, after a stern talk and intervention, he pulled it together, and was doing so good. Now here we are again....

Re: Pancreatitis
I'm so deeply sorry. Don't know much about pancreatitis, but understand what you are going through as a family.

Re: Pancreatitis
I've treated several patients with pancreatitis. Yes, patients recover just fine with fluids and a break from eating (unfortunately the diet with anything pancreas related is NPO which is nothing by mouth since the pancreas creates digestive enzymes, and eating is extremely painful with pancreatitis).
The main concern though is that once the pancreas is affect this way, chances of continued reoccurrence is high b/c of the fact he's an alcoholic. It's so debilitating. He needs to stop drinking. Which I'm sure he knows. Best of luck to your Dad. Hopefully he views this as a second chance at a healthy life

Re: Pancreatitis
Lots of prayers for your dad. Hope he feels better! My dad is an alcoholic too so I understand completely the emotions that go along with that as well. Many well wishes and strength for him as he gets sober.

Pancreatitis
I was hospitalized with pancreatitis back in January. It was horrendously painful. Mine was caused by gallstones so my gallbladder was removed and I'm 100% now.
