How far away do your kids go to school?

With my LO entering kindergarten next year, starting to think about this. Schools in a million years I would never consider because they are too far I am actually starting to think about (of course as long as we feel the school is a good fit for him).

Someone recently told me her child travels 1 hour and 15 minutes each way to school and she said it is 100% worth it and that if the school was 2 hours away she still would have sent him because she feels his school and class is perfect for him (she had a lot of difficulty with placement over the course of 2 years).

How long does your child travel to go to school?

We moved to get into a district with the best help for my son who has dyslexia. The treatment out of pocket would be $50,000 for the school year, but our district offers the same instruction in the public school. Our taxes tripled but we are paying far less than we would had we gone the private school route.

Kids that stay in district are sometimes on the bus for an hour due to where the mini bus pick ups are. That number doesn't seem too much out of the norm. Personally I wouldn't put my daughter on the bus for that long because she couldn't tolerate it. I moved to a district that would best suit her needs and the preschool just happened to be in the same district so she did not have to travel far. If I didn't move, she would have been on the bus over an hour.

My DDs school is only 15 minutes away but she is the first pick up in the morning so she's on the bus for over an hour. She loves the bus so it's never an issue. I do feel bad that she's on the bus for so long but it doesn't seem to bother her. On the way home she's only on the bus for about 20 minutes because she's the first drop off.
