Because a rape victim has never lied before? He is innocent until proven guilty.
True - but no matter how you slice it - even if she "consented" she is still a sexual assault victim - she is 12 - well under the legal age of consent.
I seriously can't believe that some on this board full of women ,who supposedly are all about women's and children's rights and marches, etc., are even trying to downplay this "alleged" incident. If this had been anyone else, he'd be ripped apart right now.
I'm sorry, but I agree. I don't support this travel ban in any way shape or form and I do think this was posted in a "see what happens when you let all of THOSE people into our country" sort of way, but to try to downplay the allegations to suit your cause is ridiculous. Yes, innocent until proven guilty, but come on. This is why so many rapes and sexual assaults go unreported- because there seems to be a knee jerk reaction to not believe the victim or to blame the victim. Please, we're better than this.
ETA: All that being said, this does not make the travel ban okay or prove that it's needed.
The accusation that I/we are downplaying the incident for political reasons is frankly offensive. The alleged perpetrator could be the biggest conservative out there, I do not know nor care. All I am saying is he is innocent until proven guilty. I'm glad the girl spoke out, so now there can be an investigation and punishment if he is found guilty.
The OP and others are making this into a partisan issue. And why? bc our NY senators are democrats? You yourself said his visa wasn't clearly denied bc of the travel ban (though I and Pumpkin read it was).
And not to downplay, but to be specific and correct, the man is accused of sexual assault and child welfare endangerment, not RAPE as you are stating. Sorry if that offends you, but there is a distinction.
I am curious to see the outcome of this case.

To me this has zero to do with politics unless the senators knew he was a sexual predator and still pulled strings. But so far that doesn't seem to be the case.
So really lets keep politics out of it unless there ends up being more to the story.

The comments on this thread are laughable!!!
1. You don't know why his visa was denied but other news sources suggest that it was due to the ban. Which draws the logical conclusion that that was why Schumer and Gillibrand intervened. That happens in politics, on every side. At that time they helped an ATHLETE gain entry to our country who they believed was being denied access because of his ethnicity.
2. Based on the brother's comments, even if this guy IS a pedophile, you're not going to find any criminal record for it in his home country since they 'love children' or whatever. Gross, but it still leads one to believe you're not going to find anything incriminating on his record.
3. Our beloved president has been accused of raping a 13 year old girl - not touching her over her clothes (which is still egregious and if she were my daughter I wouldn't be satisfied until I saw his blood) - but we just assume she's lying because she didn't press charges against one of the richest, most powerful men in the world.

Great points. And thank you for reminding us about the 13 girl tRump allegedly physically abused and forcibly raped. I think that is really sick that he allegedly threatened to harm and kill the girl and her family if she moved forward with the lawsuit. tRump himself openly admitted to knowing Jeffrey Epstein, a registered child sexual predator and rapist, who is associated with the incidents.

First let me say, I actually voted for Schumer many times, including this past election. I have also voted for Gillibrand in the past. My post was due to the fact that this is a political board and no one else was posting or going to post..and of course, because it's Schumer. Once again, another politician dropped the ball. This time it was not properly vetting. If they fast passed his visa because of it being held up, that's one thing. That would be ,as their office stated, an "unfortunate incident". But the fact that it was denied and no one can say with certainty why , is another. I don't care if a republican did it and again , I don't care where this guy is from. What happened was wrong. Everybody coming here from any country should be properly vetted. We have to be to go anywhere else. (And the fact that everyone keeps saying that the BBC and other sources posted he was denied because of the travel ban? Well that's what the ATHLETES initially told the bbc).
But thank you for stating the obvious and defending the 12 year old victim! Thank you also for a very well stated response in regard to the victim. When I posted this, the only thing I expected was maybe people would defend Schumer and Gillibrand. I'm actually very saddened that they are trying to defend an "alleged" pedophile. You are right.. We are better than this!

Not intended to downplay the alleged crime, the allegations are that he tried to kiss her and touched her over her clothing.
Yes - and she's 12. It doesn't matter if he touched her over her clothing or under it.
It's never OK.
Thank you! I can't even believe I just read that comment above yours.

Why is that? There is no difference between forcible rape and an inappropriate kiss and touch over clothing in your opinion? I'm no lawyer, but I'm pretty sure legally there is a distinction.

Enough with the explosive language, it's a difference of opinion. Get over yourself.
