Best case scenario you pass the 3 hour.

Worst case scenario you fail and have GD. I had it with my first pregnancy (fully expecting to have it again this time) and it really wasn't all that bad.

Hang in there I remember how upset I was!

Yeah, I am really upset. I'm also going on vaca from 3/11 to 3/23 so I can't do my 3 hour until after I get back, and the dr said that I should basically assume I have it and not go crazy with sugar/carbs. But does that mean I can't eat fruit? I'm going to Hawaii and they have excellent fruit and when we go there I have a bunch w breakfast and throughout the day.

I've been googling GD and now I am scared I am going to have to be induced/have a c section early.

You're more likely to fail the 3 hour with a high 1 hour, but still could pass.
I was told no fruit juices at all, but could still have some fruit. You still need to eat carbs if you have GD - just not huge amounts and you need to spread it throughout the day and balance with protein and fats.
I would just do as the Dr said and don't go crazy with carbs. If you want, you could find the basic gd diet guidelines online. I can't recall how many carbs I could have at each meal/snack.

You dont have to avoid fruit, just try to eat smaller amounts of it and have some protein with it also. You dont need to completely avoid carbs...just try to eat less of them and also eat balanced meals. For ex dont just eat a bagel for breakfast....have a piece of toast with eggs & fruit. And make sure to eat a snack in between meals so that your blood sugar doesn't dip/spike.

It's so frustrating, bc I've been trying so hard to eat healthy etc. I only gained 1 lb since my last appt 4 weeks ago (and I swear most of it is in my boobs) so clearly I haven't been pigging out on things that are bad for me.

Unfortunately it has nothing to do with what you eat or how much weight you've gained. It's how your body processes sugar during pregnancy. I failed the 1 hour both times with the same score. I started my second pregnancy 25 lbs lighter than my first, was more active and ate healthier. I passed the 3 hour with my first and failed 1 out of the 4 blood draws with my second. I had glucose intolerance. It never developed into GD, but is treated the same way. It was overwhelming at first, but it really wasn't that bad.

I assume I'll have similar issues this time around since the older you get the greater the risk is of having sugar issues during pregnancy. Good luck!

ETA: You need carbs. You just need to balance it out with protein and spread them out during the day. I couldn't have fruit for breakfast because it would make my blood sugar get too high, but I could have it for snacks. Walking/exercise after your meal also helps keep your blood sugar in check.

It can be so overwhelming. If I were you I would just enjoy my vacation lol. I was able to control my numbers with my diet and never needed insulin. If you have any questions please feel free to FM me!

Please do not get all worked up yet. Stress can actually raise your glucose levels. I'm on baby #3 and have GD for the first time. It's really not that bad. I too was worried about being induced or c-section and my OB assured me that as long as the GD is under control, you should be fine, no induction or c-section. They will closely monitor you towards the end with sonos to make sure the baby isn't too big. But most of the complications come when the GD isn't able to be controlled. Relax! Enjoy your vacation. Have fruit. And worry about the 3 hour when you get back.

I had GD and was afraid of that too.. but it was easily managed with diet (had to check sugar when I woke up and 2 hrs after every meal). I went to my scheduled c-section at 39 weeks (which was scheduled due to another issue not GD) and had a peanut.. only 6lbs 11 ozs
