Bell's Palsy
If you have had Bell's Palsy, what are some things you have done to make it easier? I was just diagnosed with it on Monday and having some issues. Light really bothers me so I bought an eye patch but honestly, just like sitting in the dark now. Also, I am having trouble eating - so any suggestions for things to eat would be great! Thanks so much!

Re: Bell's Palsy
I had it a few years ago. I have absolutely no lasting remnants of it, which is typical.
One thing that I did, especially to help with talking, is to lean on my hand, sort of like "The Thinker" statue, but cupping the cheek more. If I kept my hand on the side with the palsy, I could essentially support that side of my face and mouth, and my speech was almost normal.

Thanks. I have been doing that and it does help. Except now my cheeks hurt!

Re: Bell's Palsy
My husband just had this in January and it was awful. He went for acupuncture which helped a lot with the neck and jaw pain. The paralysis was 90 percent gone about a month later. 2 months later, his eye still does not blink on it's own though.

Re: Bell's Palsy
I had it several years ago. It took about two months for my speech to recover and my eye still does not fully blink the same way but others say they don't notice.
I did the eye patch. I also had trouble with noise so I did lay in the dark with no noise and a hot compress. I got books on tape for when I could tolerate noise. I practiced speech exercises even when they hurt to get motion in my face. It was hard but I tried to get items down with a straw to work on a pucker.
Good luck and it will get better!
