Floral Park v Carle Place v Williston Park
Sooo I know posted about CP v WP but now we've added Floral Park to the mix. Again, any thoughts, feelings, or experiences with any of these towns and communities would be greatly appreciated during this very overwhelming time :) Looking for: very strong community feel; small town feel; great place for raising a family; great schools; safety Thank you so much!

Re: Floral Park v Carle Place v Williston Park
It depends on your budget. A lot of buyers love Floral Park (especially if they want a "downtown" area that they can walk to). It definitely has a great community feel.
But Floral Park is pricey. $600K is like an entry point price, and I've had buyers look there with that budget and wind up looking elsewhere because of affordability (they could get more for their money elsewhere).

my vote is Floral Park. The rec center is amazing, and the pool is brand new. Very close commute to queens/city, and the town area (tulip ave) has a supermarket, bars, a diner, pizzeria, ice cream, pharmacy, deli, etc. Most homes are in walking distance to town

fp is on the list as well for us but the bedrooms in most of the homes are tiny ( we have seen at least 100 the past year)
love the vibe and the pool center is amazing!!!

FP very nice. My friend lives in the West End section. Just saying, she and others do use St. Ann's school in Garden City. Not looking to start the school debate. Wanted to throw it out, that's all.

Floral Park v Carle Place v Williston Park
I grew up in Floral Park and I can tell you that what you are looking for, it has all of it. The houses are really old though. My dad had to redo a lot of my friends parents electric in their houses. And like Century said, it's 600K, easy and you'll probably have to do work on a house like that. I actually grew up in Floral Park Centre, not the village. It's about 9 blocks surrounded by New Hyde Park, Floral Park Nassau, and FP Queens. We were on the North side of Jericho. Taxes were cheaper because we had to pay a little more for the rec center/pool and we couldn't use the library. I went to JLC for Elementary School and FPM for High School. OLV is a good Catholic school as well (elementary/middle). It is a VERY close community. So close that a lot of people know your business, even if you don't want them to. There are street fairs, block parties, and the main street has a lot to offer. Covert Ave has A LOT too. FPM smells in the summer because of the horses in Belmont. Looking back though I made some of the best friends that I am still close with (since I"m 4 years old).

I grew up in FP as well and I started typing a response echoing the "everyone knows your business" vibe as well but ended up deleting it hahaha.
Floral Park can be very incestual and clickey. People grow up there, marry someone from FP and then raise their own families there. One of my best friends growing up lives there now with her husband and young daughter and says it can be frustrating trying to make "Mom friends" because she feels like she is back in high school.
I will say that it definitely has that "small town USA" feel that is really hard to find on Long Island. It really was a great place to grow up. We were allowed to ride our bikes around the block by ourselves and walk to our friends houses. The schools are great.

Floral Park v Carle Place v Williston Park
I wanted to add that I have been in Floral Park for two years and while there are many people that grew up here and have been friends for a long time there are also many many families that come here from queens. I have found that these are the woman I have connected with. The other moms are nice but they aren't looking for a ton of new friends because they already have the ones they grew up with. I am very happy with the community feel which is the number one thing I was looking for! Good luck in your search.

We are in FP and we LOVE it. The pool is amazing, it is clean and safe, a 5 minute drive to Queens, tons of restaurants, lots of families. 95% of our block has kids. We use Catholic school- but not because the schools here are bad. We just wanted a Catholic education for our children. Our neighbors kids all either go to OLV or FP-Bellerose, and everyone is equally happy. Any questions, feel free to ask!

so to echo the incest comment with a personal example, lol... dh (from FP) and I (not from FP) met, and didn't find out until a few months later that his aunt was actually one of my mom's best friends in HS (mom was from FP), and was at my parent's wedding. His aunt met a guy (my dad's friend) at my parent's wedding and thought he was SO cute. She told her sister all about him, and how cute she thought he was. Her sister ended up marrying that guy. So to recap. Mom lived in FP, was bffs with my DHs aunt, and my DH's uncle by marriage was my dad's bff back in the day.... This is the story of like everyone in FP LOL
I also can agree with the "being back in HS" comment. Dh and I did not buy in FP, although I really wanted to. I love the town, and did not grow up there so I don't know many of the young families there. Dh was adamant about not wanting to raise his kids there. He doesn't want to be constantly running into old classmates and their kids when our children start school. He has a few friends from FP, but really thought alot of the guys there were tools lol
Still, I LOVEEEEEEE the neighborhood, and really want to buy our forever home there. DH will just need to be convinced

I do get that feelin of clicky but i pay no mind to it. I have met some wonderful moms in my daughter's grade n we hang out often. This town has so much to offer n it is that small tight community who really help eaxh other out. If u find a home here u will love it as much as me n my family! Fm me with questions

I prefer Wiliston park/ Herricks SD. The schools there are competitive. You can look on the Niche website to see school rankings and details on each school district. Niche

Definitely prefer Williston Park/Herricks SD over Floral Park and Carle Place. The area is very nice and the schools are top notch.

I grew up in FP, a couple of blocks from "town" It was such a townie town feeling, everyone knew everyone. Recently though, it seems like it's turning more into a Queens neighborhood than a LI one. My parents still live there.
