If your kid gets carsick
do you give them something before long trips like Bonine or Dramamine? What works best? My 3yo DS keeps getting carsick anytime we go for more than 2 hours. We're hoping to do some trips this summer to PA and DC, but I can't deal with any more vomit in my car! Thanks!

Re: If your kid gets carsick
DS is prone to motion sickness. The two times he has grew up in he car he was watching the iPad/iPhone. We don't let him play with it in the car anymore. And we do give him Dramamine before longer trips (but honestly, the two times were trips that weren't that long).

We stop every hour or so and let DS2 out of the car for a bit. He's too young for anything besides Benadryl (which didn't work because he'll still vomit in his sleep). It's annoying and adds time to the trip, but it saves us cleaning time. We also put a window shade up to discourage him from looking out the window. He's still rear facing- I hope it gets better when we face him forward. I get terrible motion sickness too. It sucks!

Re: If your kid gets carsick
We always do Dramamine. My kids will only take the grape chewables. All of my kids and myself get carsick so we are always prepared. As they get older they do know that they are starting to feel sick and can warn you better.

Eating Peppermint helps my kids tremendously. We stockpile candy canes after Christmas!

Re: If your kid gets carsick
I got carsick often as a kid and occasionally as an adult (no reading in the car for me) so dramamine was always a must for long trips.

Re: If your kid gets carsick
I give Dramamine to DD for anything over an hour and keep it in my car for shorter rides where we unexpectedly hit traffic. She pukes without fail if I don't.

For those who use Dramamine? Does it knock them out?
I know myself whenever I would take it I'd be like a zombie for hours

Re: If your kid gets carsick
My DD is very hit and miss about car sickness.....can make traveling trying for sure. Honestly if we are headed anywhere longer then 15 minutes away it can or may happen to her....but not enough to drug her for every trip or ride we take. So I make her ride with a small bucket on her lap. She doesn't seem to mind and it and it really does save the car and her clothes. I also have an emergency outfit, towels and a package of wet wipes at all times in the car with us.
