What would you rather?

We are finally going to finish our upstairs! It's a wideline cape, not dormering, but finsihing the space with the slopes. We will be putting in built-in dressers and closets to limit the amount of furntiure up there, and will only need to bring up a bed pretty much. The layout will be a bedroom on the left side, then a living room/homework area on the right with a bathroom and shower.

We have 2 bedrooms on the first floor. One is our master, which is pretty big with two closets, and the other is the nursery, which is also a decent sized room. We plan on having 1 more kid, but we are done after that.

So the question is, what would you rather?
1. Move the master bedroom upstairs, and make that into a master suite, leaving the two bedrooms downstairs for kids. Our current master could easily be shared if our 2nd ends up being a girl, and we could make the nursery into a guest room. Otherwise, our room would become DD's room, and the nursery would be a boy's room since boy's don't usually need as much space.

2. Move DD upstairs, and transform the living room area into a homework space with a built in desk, a little couch with a TV, etc. If our 2nd is a girl, they would share the bedroom up there, and would have their own hangout space up there. I feel like there would be alot of storage space for closets, dressers, etc. for kids as well. If it works out that way, our master bedroom would remain where it is, and the baby's room would be a guest room.

Ideally, we would have done two little bedrooms upstairs, but the location for the bathroom could only be in one area, and it is basically in the area tha the 2nd bedroom would have been. That's why the idea switched to a 1 bedroom and living room situation. Part of me feels like it's weird to be upstairs and the kids downstairs, but the other part of me feels like it would be nice to have a large master bedroom suite.

I just went through this. I made a master suite upstairs and kept the kids rooms downstairs. It is hard being on different floors sometimes, but i have the video monitors and can see/hear their every move.

We are in the process of refinishing our upstairs. We've already finished our master bedroom and bath which is downstairs. Our girls are sharing in the downstairs nursery but will be moving to a bedroom upstairs and dh will have an office upstairs. Their nursery will become a playroom. We haven't lived it yet but I think it will work well. I like the downstairs playroom so I can keep tabs on them and I like that they'll have their own space upstairs for sleeping. Our master is set back sort of on its own so I don't mind it downstairs.
