I am conflicted on this.

Assad is fighting the rebels in his country which are Isis and other Radical Islamic groups.

While I am for the fight against terror, there are children being killed, washed up, etc etc etc. And tons of people. It is crazy.

The use of chemical weapons is a no-no. It is scary that he has them and this needs to be stopped.

Trump sent the message by doing attacking a base, not in an area where there are people and housing.
I support Trump because this sends a message to China and Korea.

But now what? Look at how Iraq panned out. I always said GWB created Isis due to his involvement in Iraq.

I hope there is a well thought out plan. We shall see.

Now the question remains. Trump pissed off Russia. Does the left still think he and Putin are BFF’s?

I know Russia is not happy with our actions but cnn reported that they were given one hour's notice before the attack.

That is not completely correct. Assad is fighting the rebels, who are against having him in government and ISIS. The rebels aren't all radical Islamic groups.

I actually had to look up why the civil war started in Syria. I was pretty disgusted after reading that the government arrested and tortured 15 school aged children for writing anti-government graffiti on a wall. Peaceful protests started calling the release of the kids and for greater freedoms to the people of Syria. The government opened fire on the protestors and went back and shot the mourners at the funeral. More protests started and then they became violent.

I have to read more about the Assad Regime. I have read some on Wiki. This was several months ago.

This. The Free Syrian Army are anti-Baathists. However, at one time (I think, I could be confusing the names) al-Nusra was with the FSA, but they have now distanced from al-Nusra. Obama backed the Free Syrian Army, which was questionable at the time because of their link to al-Nusra.

I'm not sure how to feel about this at this point. I think a lot more countries are going to need to help out. It can't just be the US. As a previous poster said, what's the long term plan? I honestly don't think Trump has a plan because he's too much of a loose cannon. But something needed to be done. It's way past time we did something.

I think taking in the refugees and the Syrian Civil War are connected. We don't want to take in any refugees, but instead let's bomb them? Then again, the whole situation is a complete mess.

I think the Syrians are scared of what their country will turn into if al-Assad is taken down. They see what happened to Iraq. al-Assad has won back a lot of territory in the past year. Even though the Alawites are the minority, the country "ran" for the most part under the al-Assad family.

I don't know what the answer is.

Also watch Frontline's "Inside Assad's Regime." However it was from before the Russians backed Assad, so slightly outdated.

I also watch some of Assad's interviews. Those are...um... interesting.

I have to check it out to learn more about him. I just don't know the full story behind the regime so I am definitely curious.

What should the US do about Syria?

Reuters is reporting Syria has launched aircrafts today from the same airfield we struck and is continuing to carry out attacks. So wtf was the point of this strike and now what?

So far, the response has been good. It was well executed, that's for sure.

Source?

Here's one:

BBC

I dont think well executed is the right term

What should the US do about Syria?

Thank you for that video! This is a complex situation that it seems everyone wants to solve with a simple solution, but this is so grey...there is so much intermingling, it would be impossible to tease out "right" vs. "wrong," with the exception of ISIS and the like...this is so much like how the entire area works...everyone wants their own space, and while there is plenty, they all want the SAME space...all I know is, it is so sad when the people who really suffer are your everyday civilians who only want a functioning country and life and they are being gassed, killed, etc. and then when they try to leave, are turned down at every turn...

Sure!

Does that help?

If not, google "Vox Syria's war: who is fighting and why"

You will get a link with that search request.

ETA: I've been reading up about Syria for a few years. I can try to give good explanations, but I'm no expert. I'm also pretty neutral about it; i.e. I think Obama didn't do a fantastic job and I also think Trump doesn't have appropriate info for the situation.

Oh and you might want to keep an eye on Erdogan in Turkey. It's starting to spill over there.

Cheeto is striking where the chemical attacks originated. But that's Holms. Holms is pretty much dead. If he had an actual plan, it would make sense, but there is no actual plan. If 45 were smart, he would go for Damascus or Latakia, where the Alawite support is.

The point of Cheeto's strike is to get support among the American people.

It seems we pretty much all agree that we're conflicted on what is the right thing to do regarding the situation in Syria. However, it pains me that Trump is the one that has the final say on what it is.

Apparently he doesn't even have a full defense team

I am reading that for once his die hards ("alt right") are not happy about him.

I just can't believe we used $80+million worth of missiles and didn't even achieve one day of this base being inoperative? I'm sure his supporters are thrilled but it just seems like a huge waste at this point.
