strep b treatment at 25 weeks?
So my urine picked up a strep b infection, dr prescribed antibiotics, was anyone ever treated this early for this? With my first it was only during delivery I believe. Is there any harm to baby before delivery? I am so confused and spoke to dr but don't want to call back again until tomorrow. I don't love taking the idea of taking antibiotics when pregnant!

Re: strep b treatment at 25 weeks?
If you have strep b in your urine, it's a form of a UTI so that would be why they are treating it with antibiotics now. UTI's can be dangerous and can go to your kidneys. I know a lot of friends and family who had UTI's while pregnant and were treated for them with antiobiotics. I am sure the one your dr prescribed is safe for pregnancy.
I am not sure if it is related to the strep b they treat you for when you deliver.... that is a swab, not a urine test so I really don't know

strep b treatment at 25 weeks?
It's sounds to me like maybe it's a bad flair up. Are you having uti like symptoms? Typically when they swab for gbs before delivery it's just that's it's present, not a big deal to mom, but they don't want it to pass to baby. After I delivered my first (I had been positive and had antibiotics during labor) I had a flair up with discharge and I forget exactly what symptoms but I needed antibiotics again.

Re: strep b treatment at 25 weeks?
I had to take antibiotics during week 12 for a UTI. I hated doing it but had to. My baby is fine and I was a lot earlier than you when taking them. I would think you need a vaginal swab again closer to delivery to check for vaginal strep b (vs urinary strep B). I would insist on it or at least get an explanation if they tell you that you won't need a swab again. I believe strep B must be treated within a month from delivery, so this should not count for you.

I was treated during this pregnancy but was a bit further along than you. I will also be treated during labor and delivery. The dr would not prescribe antibiotics if it weren't safe.
