What is a normal monthly car payment?

We pay 365 for Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited lease..no money down.

385 for a Rav 4 limited, sign and drive.

Sick of having two car payments so we are buying out the Jeep and with no money down the payment would be $370 but will likely pay it in full come year end.

Normal for us is between 300 and 400. I don't think I can stomach paying over 400. I hate that I can't find something that meets my needs for less. Between cars, insurance and LIRR our transportation expense is seriously disgusting!!!!!

Re: What is a normal monthly car payment?

My Q5 was $750 in 2012

My Honda was $300 in 1997.

My income went up. Yes $750 is outrageous , but its the car I wanted and could afford.

I think a "normal" payment for a "regular car" (Ford, Honda, Toyota etc) is about $350.

I think most cars that are "affordable" cost in the $18,000 to $28,000 range.

My car was $50K. After the down payment It was $42 I think.

Its ALL about how much is financed and what you can afford.

No such thing.

Monthly payment means nothing... you can have a lower payment but ultimately pay much more for the car in the long run.

I don't finance cars.
I make a "car payment" to myself every month in a safe but higher interest account.
After several years, I have the cash to buy another car.

My last car was 12 years old when I turned it in this past fall. Accounting for all expenses over the lifetime of the car (including gas), it costs me less than $300 a month.

Its all relative, we have a fully loaded Explorer Lease and its $500/mo (0 down) . However, my DH just has a daily driver for to and from work. Its a Hyundai we bought out after the lease and we only pay like $200/mo for the loan on that one.

Ours are $450 and $310.

I don't see how there could be a "normal." You're going to pay less for a hyundai accent than you will for mercedes.

Leases, no money down:

2015 GMC Yukon XL Denali $1080
2013 Toyota Sequoia $695 (I think it's a 2013 and it's the cheapest model)

I'm floored by these numbers but I'm a cheapskate.

I traded in my civic hybrid for a caravan so after the trade in I pay $195/month with no interest on a 5yr loan.

DH paid under $100/month on his patriot but he paid about $6k in a balloon payment at the end.

Re: What is a normal monthly car payment?

There is no way to answer this question because even if you assume everyone is driving a similar make/model of car, everyone also puts down different amounts of a down payment which makes all the difference.

My car payment is $450 on my lease because I put $0 down and didn't pay taxes up front. However my payment could have easily been $300 if I put a few thousand dollars down (NEVER do that in a lease!)

agreed! i have a 2012 elantra that i put 5k down on, payment was $282 a month. plan to drive it as long as possible. dhs elantra is 182 for a 2015 lease.

we will need a new car next year, will have to keep it around or under 300 again. i guess that what happens when you're paying over 2k to student loans every month!

I haven't had a car loan in awhile (my car is a 2006) but when I bought my car new it had every bell and whistle for the time and I put about $10k down and got a great interest rate from my credit union on a 5 year loan. I think I paid about $250 a month. Times sure have changed !

Re: What is a normal monthly car payment?

We don't have any car payments. DH has never bought a new car because he is in the camp that cars are a money sucking venture (and I agree, I don't see cars as status symbols- they get me from point A to point B and I don't have clients to impress). I drive a 2012 Civic EXL that I bought (financed at .9% APR) with 50% down and my monthly payment was $250/month. I paid off the remainder of the loan a year later (total cost was around 24K) and my balance was $13K. My initial finance term was 3 years but I hate carrying monthly payments. I follow Suze Ormans advice that one shouldn't finance or lease for more than 3 years.

I plan to upgrade to an SUV this year or next but will be looking at certified pre owned or at older models. I refuse to lease because I hate to be limited in mileage use or worrying about dents/scratches. I don't want a high monthly payment so if I finance I plan to keep it at $300/month or less.

Re: What is a normal monthly car payment?

I have an Audi Q5.....we financed for 5.5 years. I pay $588

We looked at what payment we were comfortable paying each month. Then they work the price of the car around your monthly payments.

Mine was $750 a month. I got some upgrades and got financing through Audi. After trade in and down payment I financed about $42K on a $50K car. 5 years.

It all depends on down payment, package etc etc.

What is a normal monthly car payment?

I lease a Chevy volt for $329/m (15k miles, 0 down)

I financed a Honda CR-V EX-L for $450/m (traded in a car that we still owed a lot of money on so we paid the difference off so technically we put $0 down)

yes, it does, we traded in my car. Only got $2500 for it and I think about $5,000 down. But I told them how much I wanted to pay per month, and they adjusted price. This was a fully loaded car too.
Alos depends on your interest rate as well.
