Girl Names

I am seriously considering either Emily or Laney as the name of our 4th child (daughter due in the fall)

Thoughts?! Any other suggestions (though we ruled out many other names!)

Is Laney a good name for all ages, even adult?

TIA!

Re: Girl Names

I LOVE the name Laney. Wish I had thought of it, haha.

Emily is really pretty, too, but she'll most likely be Emily 'Last Initial' in school, if that matters.

Re: Girl Names

Would you consider Alaina or even Melanie with a nickname of Laney? I don't mind nicknames at all, but I personally prefer to use formal names that can be used better as an adult/professionally. Laney seems more like a nickname to me. I really like Emily.

ETA: I don't know how much you care about how the girls' names all sound together, but Emily is classic and seems to fit more with the style of your other daughters' name.

I am not really a fan of any of the formal names for Lainey or Laney unfortunately...just like it alone. I like Emily but feel it will be common.

My daughters legal name is a common nickname for a longer name. Not her name, but as an example: We liked Katie, but not Katherine or Kaitlyn, and we'd never call her either, so we named her Katie.

Not Katie, but my DD's name is also usually considered a nickname. We didn't see the point in naming her something only to call her something different.

I like Laney as a nickname for something like Elena but not really as a given name. I do feel like Emily fits in with your other daughters' names better, too.

Re: Girl Names

My DD is Emily. Surprisingly it's not as common as I thought it would be. I havent run into another Emily in her entire daycare. I love that it's a classic name that will never go out of style. We get a ton of compliments on her name all the time - a lot of "Oh I love that name...good 'ole American girl name" Chat Icon
