LONG and VERY Disturbing Story

i went to a local shelter to view a dog last week and asked to see a specific dog that i had seen on the internet. after a few preliminary questions were asked, i was told that due to the fact that i had a male dog, that he and the shetler dog (male) would not get along. nothing to do w/ size, breed or personality, just simply based on gender. she said that having dogs of the same sex is like placing 2 italian women in the kitchen together. i said, well can i at least see the dog. she again was very argumentative and said, oh well he is mouthy anyway, wouldn't be a good dog for you. um, HELLO - you don't even know me.

ANYWAY, i then asked if they had any female rotties. she responded w/ "i have the perfect one for you". she escorted me to the cage (would not me browse elsewhere) and then asked if i wanted to bring the dog outside. when she opened the door to let the dog out (leashed) a volunteer was outside w/ another dog. the other dog started running up to the rottie and the woman screamed and cursed at the volunteer. there were no signs of aggression from the dogs, just excitement.

w/ that the woman grabbed the other dog and starting complaining that the collar was too loose. as she was trying to tighten the collar the dog started jumping (he/she wanted to play and didn't want to be restricted). the lady started yelling at the dog and said, "sit still or i will break your FU*KING face, i swear to god i will punch you if you don't settle down". i was beyong mortified. she then proceeded to belittle the volunteer.

i was so taken back but wanted to at least spend time w/ the animal. after about a half an hour and being totally pressured to "adopt" the dog, i left and said i will have to think about it.

i was SO totally turned off by her behavior and felt SO bad for those poor animals that have to endure that abuse.

is there anything that i can do? she told me she has been there for 15 yrs and views herself as the dog whisperer.

Where is this, you should definitely either investigate or get a petition together regarding her!? What kind of shelter is run like that?! I am shocked and horrified

So sad!! I hate the way some people treat animals!! Why work with them or even have them if you aren't going to treat them right?? I would report the shelter to the aspca.
