I'm just gonna say it. The politics board is such an effing cop out
Quite frankly, it's not that I don't care. But I talk about politics daily, all day. In real life. LIF is an escape for me. So yes, I ignore the Trump posts and the boards. Frankly, I hear enough debate at work, at home, amongst friends, etc. I like signing on to LIF and reading random"mindless" threads. Thats my thing. That's why I'm here. If I want to read about strangers political beliefs I'll sign on to Facebook. There's plenty of it there.

I'm just gonna say it. The politics board is such an effing cop out
Can we just cut the crap and stop with the name-calling and innuendos about the original poster? You're feeding into the bullying that has been allowed and emboldened by our president.
I don't disagree with the original poster. It is our civic duty to discuss and talk about what we like and what we don't like when it comes to how our government is run. It is also your right to say something or not say something. I just have a difficult time understanding how there were so many Trump supporters on here who are now not saying one word either positive or negative.
I think everyone on both sides has developed a stigma. Those of us who did not vote for Trump nor are in favor of his actions are deemed to be head loppers. The other side is said to be ignorant. This is not my opinion only. But you have to realize that getting it off your chest often shows your involvement intelligence and willingness to participate in American civics no matter which side you are on.
Can we just do it in a way that is not so Middle School?

I've never been one to talk about politics, so I definitely don't care to post about it either. I totally dismiss/avoid any political posts on FB as well. It's a personal choice.

The OP hurled quite a few insults in her original post. Starting off by calling people names is not the way to get more people over to the political board. I did not see may insults being thrown her way though so I am surprised you were reading it that way. If we are no posting on that board does it really mean that we are not involved, not intelligent and that we don't participate? which is what you stated in your reply. You want all involved in a way that is not middle school and yet you, in a nicer wording are kind of saying the same thing she did, no?

I found the original post quite offensive and belittling last night when I first read it, but didn't have the time or desire to engage with the OP. But starting a post by calling people privileged and gross isn't the best way to convey a point. Par for the course with this poster, if I recall correctly.

I come here for a sense of community or entertainment when I occasionally have time. Not only do I not have the time to debate all day but I just can't anymore. The only time I have for politics, is when I'm calling politicians who can hopefully actually make a difference, not arguing strangers on the internet.

We are under no obligation to have these discussions on LIF. Assuming people don't care just because they choose not to have a conversation about it on an online message board is very silly.
ETA: Not for nothing, but the original poster and yourself were the only ones that engaged in any sort of name calling.

You ask everyone to stop name-calling, and then you insult the masses at the end of your post!
I think we need to all understand that we are each entitled to our own opinion - god bless American democracy - and you're OPINION isn't always FACT, even if you believe it is, and it's ok if someone thinks differently, even if you FEEL they are wrong.

Please understand that I have no intention of name-calling anyone I was just presenting both sides of the argument.
I also specifically said it is your civic duty to say something and it is also your right to say something or or to say nothing at all.

The more I think about it, this post is totally insulting.
I didn't realize that Long Island Families was the pinnacle of newsworthy information and where we should all be drawing our political information from.
To assume that people who wanted a politics board to keep the boards organized like they are supposed to be or who don't post on the threads on that board are gross and privileged and have their heads in the sand is truly ignorant.
There are plenty of places and ways to take political action, there are plenty of sources to get your information from, there are plenty of ways to be outraged and "fight back"- and I don't think Long Island Families is even close to being on any of those lists.
 and to be honest I feel like a lot of people left this site because all you saw on FHF was posts about Trump

I dont post because I dont see the point. I have opinions, follow news, and care about the issues. I am a conservative but no Im not happy with some of the things Trump says and does. But I feel like sometimes people want people like me to post, not because they want to listen and understand, but because they cant wait to tell me what a horrible person I am that doesnt deserve to live.

This. This is LIF, kind of just a joke in the grand scheme of things. I certainly wouldn't base my judgements of someone on whether or not they participate here.
