Re: Pet Insurance
Congrats in thenew puppy. Insurance has its pros and it's cons. It does not cover vaccinations and check ups. It's does not cover pee-existing conditions which to me, is a gray area. So for example, we have a lab hound mix who is prone to ear infections. He also has horrible allergies that cause skin and eye infections. The first time it happened, insurancee covered most of it. After that, Anyear, skin or eye infection is considered "pre-existing" and therefore not covered. We paid over $350 for vet bill and meds last week when he got an ear infection. I feel it's like any living thing. They are going to get infections. They aren't always caused by his allergies but insurance views it that way no matter how it's written up. That being said, a few years ago he had something very wrong with his stomach that had him vomiting all over the house and he could barely move. it cost close to 4 grand in vey bills. Thank God he was OK and insurance pretty much covered all of it. So for us we feel in the long run, it's worth it. Bottom line is, read the fine priint, ask a lot of questions and talk to your vet! We found that the companies hid a lot from us. Our vet's office knew a lot more about the ins and out than we did Good luck!
*ETA DH had an option under his health plan to add pet insurance at a discounted rate through a pet insurance company, so you cane look into that too.

Np! I was looking into this for my new dog. As per my research on reddit (LOL) and LIF, seems like Healthy Paws and Trupunion are the best ones. I looked at reviews and all of the bad ones seem to be about them not covering pre-existing conditions... so I guess the best thing to do is cover them when they're little and have none. :) Good luck!
