Quiet Time
So I've read stories about parents who successfully implemented a "quiet hour" or quiet time for their littles once they give up napping. Has anyone had success with something like this?? My 3 year old is really fighting his nap recently and I think he's close to giving it up. He's a pretty high energy kid and I can't imagine him laying nicely for an hour reading or doing puzzles but I'd love it if I could make something like this work! Who are these unicorn children and how do I make my kid one of them??

Re: Quiet Time
My son just turned 4 and even though he could use the nap at least half the time, he's been fighting it lately as well. His pre-K that he's starting next week has a one-hour nap period during which the kids need to stay in their cot.... so I've been trying to prepare him for this lately. I tell him he has to stay in his room & not run around (I tell him to stay in his bed but he usually doesn't... he keeps opening the door & yells down "how many more minutes?!?!?!" lol) If I give him a few books he will sit & look at them, but mostly I encourage him to rest & sometimes he does fall asleep. It doesn't always go well. Some days he complies & reads his books quietly, other days he's bouncing off the walls & whining to come out of his room.

Re: Quiet Time
I always stuck to a nap at noon. when they stopped actually going to sleep they still had to go in at 12 for at least an hour. Lasted until they started school.

Re: Quiet Time
We still have rest time for my 4yo (my 3yo still naps). I never stopped putting her in for her "nap" - but as she is outgrowing it (will still sometimes nap when shes had a busy day), she just plays in her bed instead. It is part of the routine and she is ok with it.
