Kindergarten starts for DC1 next week

Every time I think about it, I feel sick. Anyone else? I'm questioning my choice of private school, worrying about everything. I wish she was in prek one more year. She has a fall birthday, so I could have held her back, but I didn't want to...

What are you worried about? How did she do in PreK -- was she happy? Im sure she will do great -- if you are confident she will be too!

Re: Kindergarten starts for DC1 next week

OMG I was a basket case for weeks before DD started K.
I would cry every single time I thought about it.
It was terrible.
I put her to bed the night before K started and left the room and just SOBBED.
Then she bounded off that bus after school the first day and was so happy, so excited, loved it so much and I realized I was crazy all along.

You will see. Your DD will LOVE school so much and after a few days, you will get used to the whole routine and see it really was nothing to worry or be upset about.

But I get it... the anticipation is the WORST.

You'll both be fine, I promise.

I hear you -- my DS is going into PreK. He was in a nice private nursery school that was teeny tiny. We loved it there. This new school is huge with 800 kids. Makes me worried as well, but i know he will do great and learn a lot. Im sure you are making all the right decisions for your baby!

I have considered home schooling... and then 5 minutes passed and I realized I would most likely kill him or rip all my hair out if I attempted to do it....

I am nervous, I am freaking out what to pack for lunch, will he eat, will he be the messy one, will he make friends.... ugh

I know it's normal and he will be fine.... I think this is harder on the parents than the kids...

Kindergarten is such an amazing new adventure! You send them as babies and they come out these amazingly independent learners!

As much as I was worried for my daughter, I was more excited for her. Your concerns are completely normal and valid, but kids do this every year, moms do this every year, and somehow, we make it through :)

It's definitely hard, but also so wonderful.

I'm worried about the same thing. She did great in pre k and loved it, but it was only 2.5 hours and I dropped her off and picked her up. Besides pre k she's always been with me, so its hard letting her go all day Chat Icon I know ultimately she'll be fine and it's for the best, it's just a hard transistion.Chat Icon

Yes! I remember thinking- "so i am just supposed to put her on the bus, and that's it? Not know if she got there ok, if she found her classroom, nothing?"

It seemed so strange and foreign to me. I mean, in my head, she was a baby!!

And she had been in daycare since 8 weeks old- but I would drive her there, hand her over to the teachers and then pick her up later.

The whole putting her on a bus and hoping for the best thing was KILLING me.

But like I said, once you do it a few times, it becomes normal. And so much easier.
I promise!

I'm considering following the bus the first day, lol. Both because I'm excited to see her go to her first day and because I'm worried about her getting there.

I didn't follow the bus but I went to the school and watched her get off the bus the first day for my 1st dd - will probably do it for my 2nd on Tuesday. The catch is to make sure they don't see you though!

I'm so ready for my kindergartener to start. She went to prek in her elementary school so that helps with the nerves. I'm hoping she has an awesome teacher and really loves it.

On the other hand my 2.5yo I'd starting a 3 year program and I'm worried about a million things with that.

Good to know! I'm not too worried about her getting there since I'm pretty sure there will be teachers or staff coralling all the kindergarteners and bringing them down to their classrooms (at least I hope so!) Although the possibility of the bus getting into an accident makes me nervous. I can picture her forgetting to eat her lunch in the short time allotted bc she was too busy chatting away, forgetting to use the bathroom in time bc no one reminded her, wandering off the playground into the parking lot if no one is watching carefully...stuff like that. And I am kind of sad that I won't get to see her go into the school when she gets there Chat Icon last year for pre k I got to see her go in and see her come out.

It's funny because I worried about all that too- eating lunch, going to the bathroom in time etc- but it amazed me how independent she become in such a short time. She would buy lunch on certain days and go on line and pay for her food with a PIN number (the aides helped with the PIN number in Kindergarten, but for 1st grade they had to memorize their pin- an EIGHT DIGIT NUMBER!) and she did it all like it was nothing.
It really is so good for them- they go in babies and in a few weeks they are these independent little creatures with a schedule, a routine, - it's just amazing.
And in K, the teachers and aides are all so loving and nurturing- they give hugs, they kiss boo boos, they help with lunch, etc.
So all my worry was really for nothing!

Re: Kindergarten starts for DC1 next week

I am freaking out! I cry, Im getting extra snuggle time in the morning and I am so worried. Im worried about the bathroom, eating snack what do I put his snack in a paper bag??? A clear ziploc bag?
Lunch!! What am I going to send him to eat? Friends!! Im worried about bullies and kids being mean to him.
He is my first, my NICU baby who came home on oxygen. He has been in EI since 3 months, OT, PT, Speech been through so much. He has been in school since 2, did two years of Pre-K since he has a December birthday. He is beyond ready for this. He will be in an integrated classroom with 15 kids, 2 teachers and an aid in the class all day. Im getting a bus right in front of my house. I don't even have to get dressed!!
There is one huge part of me that is going insane and the other part is excited for him. I can't wait to see him change, to read, to get excited about school and specials!! I know this will be a growing year for him. I just hate that it came so fast!!
I have two more after him, my DD is going into Pre-K and my DS will be in the 3s program so I won't be alone. I just can't believe he is going into Kindergarten!!
