Do your kids go to school on their birthdays?
Just curious. Dd loves school (she just started kindergarten) so I will most likely send her to school. But I feel kind of bad about it since this will be the first year we don't get to spend the day with her. Just wondering if parents typically send their kids to school or keep them out to do something special. And if you keep them out, what excuse do you give the school? Say they're sick or tell the truth?

Absolutely.
She loves being in school on her birthday because she gets tons of attention. They make it really special.
Plus I work so I wouldn't be home with her anyway.
Plus I don't pull her out of school unless she is sick or there is a really important reason.
We celebrate at home that night and then she has a friends party the weekend before or after.

Yes! They love getting attention at school to celebrate. My older son's bday is around Memorial Day weekend so some years it's during break so he winds up being off anyway.
My younger DS's bday is in July. I send in snacks for the kids at camp.
The weekend closest to their bday they get to pick a family activity of their choice and restaurant where they want to eat.

Yes. Never thought of not sending him to school. They are out of school relatively early IMO - 2:40 pm, and then we can spend the rest of the day with him to celebrate. DS's birthday is on Halloween, so the celebration is basically doing trick or treat and then having dinner wherever he wants. We celebrate with his friends on a weekend.
About the excuse in the school, we always tell the truth, because kids talk a lot and teachers might find out.

It's the same for us. DH has always taken the day off and we've done something together. But, I will send her to school and DH will work. DD has been talking about birthdays in school because there was one already. I'm sure she will want to go.

Dd would not be happy to miss celebrating her birthday at school. I would do a special breakfast and of course dinner/ cake to make it special.

My kids go to school but I pull them out at lunch/ recess (60 minutes) so they have a special birthday lunch with me and then they return to school. They love it!

Do your kids go to school on their birthdays?
DD would be going to school on her birthday but this year her bday falls during spring break. I wouldn’t keep her home if there was school.

A couple of my friends pull their kids on their birthdays and do a family day activity. I personally do not as my daughter loves school and loves celebrating with her friends. In my mind, school is their job and I never took off for my birthday so no need to take off for theirs.

Yes it's their greatest day ever! I mean my oldests birthday falls on a Saturday, but she bought cupcakes in on Wednesday

Yes - they make a huge deal of them. They get called over the loud speaker and the teacher makes the day really special.

Yes, they bring in cupcakes, names get announced over loudspeakers etc.
I do give my kids an option though if they want a birthday party or they can take a day off and do something special i.e. go to the city, zoo, museum etc.
But thats not on their actual birthday.

We tend to go on vacation for DC's b-day, so very often my child is not in school. However, unless we actually have a trip planned, DC goes to school.

yup- especially in the younger grades like K, they make a big deal out of it-- give them a sticker or crown to wear all day, they usually announce their name over the loudspeaker in the morning, they usually do a little celebration in the class, too. we're not allowed to send in food, but a little goodie bag for each kid with non-food items. AND last year, DS's Kindergarten teacher let the parent come in and read the kid's favorite book to the class on their birthday. AND each classmate made them a picture, that the teacher made into a little "birthday book". so he wants to be there on his birthday for all that- we do something together somewhere around his bday on the weekend or at night or whatever.
