Sore Throat Relief?
DD is 17 months and she's just miserable at the moment. She's had fever and a mild cough for a few days but today she woke up with a bad cough and she just seems like she's in a lot of pain when she coughs. She's inconsolable. Of course, I have to be at work today so she's home with my mom and sister. She took Tylenol this morning for some fever reduction/pain relief and we've been running the humidifier, but she's not wheezing. Just coughing so much that it's gotta hurt. Is there anything else I can do for her? She's eating... very little but she is eating. Can I try weak tea with honey or something? I just don't know what to do and I feel so bad.
Also, we've been to the doctor and they said it's viral- no coxsackie or anything like that. So they just recommended ibuprofen and rest.

Re: Sore Throat Relief?
I was going to say Ibuprofen is better than Tylenol for that type of thing because it's an anti inflammatory- where Tylenol is not.
Try switching to that.
And ask your ped if she can have benedryl yet- not sure if they can under 2. But if they can, they ped can give you the correct dose based on weight and that usually helps dry up whatever is causing the cough - usually a nasal drip

Sore Throat Relief?
When DD had a terrible cough our ped had us give her Dimetapp. she was 12 mths and the dosage she told me to use was 3.25. Helped her so much. Check with your ped.

Re: Sore Throat Relief?
I always give honey for coughs and sore throats and it always seems to help DD. I usually do raw honey if I have.

Sore Throat Relief?
I agree with a lot of what was said already. Ibuprofin may help more than Tylenol. At her age she can have straight honey or a homeopathic cough syrup like children's zarbees (no need to do the baby version after 12 months since she can have honey). My ped doesn't recommend regular cough syrups until they're much older. If she's not starting to get better ask they ped about benadryl to help with congestion if that's what is making her cough.

Re: Sore Throat Relief?
Thank you so much everyone! I didn't realize Zarbee's was safe for under 2. Otherwise, I was told no benadryl or medicated cough syrups under 2. I think I'll try to pick up some Zarbee's today. She's been taking motrin now and she's okay for the most part- sleepy and she has coughing fits that sound so harsh, but she doesn't really seem congested otherwise. Her nose isn't stuffy/runny and her breathing is very clear. Her temp is still up and down, too. I just hope she's feeling better soon. I hate seeing her suffer.

Re: Sore Throat Relief?
We use elderberry syrup. You can get it on Amaxon or at a health food store.
