Pence protesting protesters?

So, it's OK if the VP makes a huge spectacle of leaving the football game, in "protest" of the NFL players kneeling, making a mockery of the Anthem for his personal/political gain, spending $$$ of our tax dollars, but it's not OK for NFL players to take a knee?

My favorite is how suddenly people are banning the NFL cause there are criminals on the team who make millions. No one gave 2 shits about this fact until they started kneeling!

Yup. Makes me sick. And as if the players are doing anything wrong. It's called freedom of speech, I don't understand this at all, other than it's old fashioned racism.

Re: Pence protesting protesters?

I was at the Steelers / Jaguars game yesterday and quite happy to see that all the players on both sidelines stood for the anthem.
Disappointed though that when some armed forces members were honored during the game, some of the spectators were more interested in their beer and nachos than standing up and giving them the respect these men deserved.

I found it ominous for him to pull that stunt; they're very 1984, those clowns.
And how much did it cost?!?!?!?

Pence protesting protesters?

Was it really that huge?
I mean really? Was it?

I didn't even know what this was all about until I saw it on CNN. I didn't feel like clicking on it. Oh what did Pence's protest cost, really? Um, do I care what he's protesting? Wait, maybe I do it could be international, global, please don't start a war... so I look and nope.. it's NFL. Like, seriously are you kidding me with this stuff?

Couldn't even tell you which game it was. Why is this relevant? Because we are making him relevant? Because the media wants him to be important?

I don't think anyone's really boycotting football over this.
At least not enough to matter
I don't think anyone's really much paying attention anymore and that's got the media in a frenzy.

I mean, literally cost, in security detail, travel, etc; hundreds of thousands of dollars wasted so he could purposely walk out of that game.
And I'm not kidding; I take civil liberties very seriously. He is the vice president.

So you're upset at the costs a VP spends going to a game? or walking out?
He has to walk out sooner or later

So should he not go to a game?

Serious question
Did you watch that particular game?
Did you watch to see what he'd do?
Did you watch the moment he walked out?
Did you notice the moment he did?
Or did you find out after it was made public news fodder? Be honest. Because if the cost of the action or the civil liberties of it was that important to you, you'd have been on it since the moment he entered the stadium

I may not agree with any of it but I'm also not going to proclaim I paid enough attention to start with to be upset about it.

I have no problem with the former governor of Indiana going to a Colts game on a day that was honoring Peyton Manning.

I have a problem with the vice-president showing up to this game with the intention of leaving immediately after the anthem as a stunt. The Colts were playing the 49ers, which have had a larger percentage of players kneeling for the anthem (Kaepernick was a 49er), so it was apparent that there would be players kneeling. The press pool traveling with the VP were told to stay in their van, that the VP would be leaving early. The whole thing was a ridiculous stunt that the president is now using as a fundraising device.

Yes I have a problem with this.

So you have a problem with the stunt. Fair enough
It was predictable from a solar system away but fair enough.
I can appreciate that. It's an honest stance. Fair and direct. You're angry that he took advantage of a situation to make a show of himself doing something stupid. Ok.

So what are you doing to do about it? Rather what CAN we do about it? Because I hear lots of talk about impeaching Trump without any consideration that this would be the alternative.

Before you ask me... What am I doing? I'm teaching tolerance. But then again I always have. Just that I've upped the ante a bit. I still believe our flag deserves respect. I still believe our police do too. I also believe every person, regardless of race deserves to be treated as a human being until they are otherwise made inhuman. That is to say if you come at me with a knife, I'm not going to let you stab me.

I went to a high school football game on Saturday where my daughter performed during halftime. But I tell you this. Before the game, each and every person sprinted to stand up for that anthem. Including those in wheelchairs, where possible. Those hats came off and silence was heard. Kneeling itself is not an insult but when you can stand up. What I found interesting is that unless I'm mistaken the prayer was skipped and no one noticed. All this attention to the kneeling is focused in the wrong spot for me. It's more about Trump and less about the actions that started it with Kaepernick.

I teach my daughter to respect everyone based on their actions. Not their reactions. To me there's a difference.

It shouldn't have taken a presidential insult to have driven the need to action. And for those players who choose not to kneel, they shouldn't be ridiculed. I think the media is keeping this alive. The Pence stunt just gave them more fuel. Because there wasn't enough of a spark last week for ratings justification.

As a show of solidarity?
Global stage and all?

We've got bigger problems than the NFL, the biggest sports franchise. Pence used public dollars for a ******** stunt. We can complain about that.

That urks me so much, and find it disrespectful!
I hate football anyway.

It's a peaceful way of protesting - who cares if and when athletes chose to protest?! It's not hurting anyone, it's not aggressive, and it's their free speech right to protest. (However, there might be rules in other countries against certain kinds of protesting - I don't know about protesting rules elsewhere).

I don't see why you have such an issue with a peaceful protest. People are angry about the treatment they're receiving, and in America we have the 1st Amendment right to protest. People are so bent out of shape b/c they think it's "disrespecting" the flag - but that flag is there to tell us we have rights - and peaceful protesting is one of them.

This would've made more upset. People are such hypocrites.

With all due respect, I don't understand the questions. I did not see this particular game, but things that I care about are happening all the time--while I sleep, while I'm food shopping, while I'm at work, while I'm putting kids to bed--that it's not possible to be a witness to all of them. That doesn't mean I care any less about them and the global dialogue surrounding them. It doesn't matter what the media says. The fact is the VP, who is supposed to uphold the Constitution, pulled a stunt about something that is protected by the Constitution.

Pence protesting protesters?

see...?
This is disappointing. I never said I had an issue with the protest itself.

I mentioned the Olympics EXACTLY because it's been done before. I know that. Seriously, who doesn't? and you didn't then shame on you for NOT knowing #1 the history, #2 arguing for equality and not knowing the fight has been so long

I just don't see Pence's stunt as anything other than a distracting STUNT

I think the issues are legit
I think the bandwagon players who are kneeling by pressure of other players and/or owners and/or media is shameful.

Stand up (or in this case kneel) for what you believe in but if you are unsure, EDUCATE yourself. Don't just follow a pack. I believe that goes for ANY cause.

Why is reason and calm reflection viewed as a protest ?
Ask me directly about an exact topic but don't assume I disagreed with the protest because I'm asking for clarification on what we are doing to make the WORLD better for our children. How is that disagreeing with the protesters? I am teaching my child tolerance and respect for the flag, police officers and *ALL* Americans and that's somehow derived into disagreeing with them? How so?
Truly puzzling.

Id rather keep this argument to the facts of discrimination and not a political pissing contest because let's be honest. There's no winning that here on LIF. You hate Trump. Ok, fine, I get that. I even respect that. But this issue is more than hate trump.

I assume your post is directed at me, but honestly, I think you need to reread what you wrote previously. I was originally confused when you said that you teach tolerance to your child, but then your questions about the Pence stunt and the protests make it seem otherwise. Especially this post:

Are we going to have athletes kneel at the Winter Olympics?
As a show of solidarity?
Global stage and all?

What's next?

Based on your previous posts, these questions don't come across as someone that is asking sincere questions. They come across as snarky questions.
