Speaking of Winter Coats...
What's up with my coat? I have one of those long MK coats with the feather stuffing, and when it gets bitter cold, it feels like the wind goes right through this.
I can't remember if it was always like this, or we just had mild winters when I first got it.
Do all those feathery coats do poorly in the frigid NE air?
How can you tell a new coat is going to keep you warm unless you're actually in the cold?
How do you buy a coat? How do I not know this?

Love your last questions lol
I bought my coat based off of reviews. Especially my SIL She loved her north face so much and raved for years about it. I’m pretty frugal with stuff, so it took mea While to finally give in and buy one. But I am so glad I did ! I of course waited for a good sale. My coat is like wearing a cozy blanket outside.

Re: Speaking of Winter Coats...
When buying a down coat you need to look at fill level.
The higher the fill, the more money it will be but the warmer it will be.
I got a jacket (not a long coat) from lands end with an 850 fill. It's almost too warm at times. I did a lot of research and found it to be the highest fill at the best price- higher fill than the Northfaces I was looking at yet cheaper.
Definitely look into the fill when buying and compare.
Down fill power is a measure of the loft or 'fluffiness' of the down and its insulating properties. The higher the fill power, the more air pockets in the down and the more insulating the jacket will be for its weight. Fill power is calculated in laboratory conditions and is measured in cubic inches per ounce.

Only for down coats. People that have allergies or PETA can not (or refuse) to wear down. Alternatives to down do not have the fill listed because that's not how they measure the "warmth" factor

Re: Speaking of Winter Coats...
Thanks for the fill tip!
Could my coat have lost fill? Those little suckers pop out a lot.
I tried my husband's pea coat this morning, and what a difference. It was like wearing a fitted blanket. Loved that it wasn't all poofy either. So warm. I'm going to look into some long wool coats. I love being outdoors, and not feeling the brickness of the cold.
