Dr. Alex Kofinas

So after reading the other post I want some more information about Dr. Kofinas in Garden City. I would like to see him pregnant or not. I've been cycling again for a year and in that time I did 2 FETs. The first ended in a miscarriage at 8 weeks and dragged on for months. The other FET had a strong beta but quickly declined. Years ago when I was cycling I had many failed iuis, ivfs, and fet. Some ended in chemicals and some in BFN. I had one successful pregnancy with ivf.

Do you think I would be a good candidate to see him for additional testing? I've only done basic immune testing (DQ Alpha and NK cells) and the Recurrent Loss Panel. I'm on lots of immune meds when I transfer.

If you saw him while not pregnant how did that go?

What tests did he order?

What was your first appointment like?

If you saw him while pregnant how did that go?

I have out of network benefits. If you have the same what were your costs associated with his care?

Thanks ladies. I'm really trying to figure out what is going on with my body. Since I am on a lot of immune meds I figure if I do get pregnant I'll need his help anyways. Any advice is appreciated.

Absolutely go see him. I saw him when I was pregnant with my DD (IVF). While I chose not to continue seeing him after my initial appointment, I would have continued under his care if I had been truly high risk or had suffered losses.

you should, talk to the girl in the billing department. She was very upfront with me. I'm most certainly seeing him before my next FET as well.

I saw him during a loss. They did some bloodwork at that point and then met with me to go over a plan. At the same time I mentioned to Kofinas I was going to see Braverman too. Since they both go along the same lines of immune treatment I saw Braverman to get pregnant and Kofinas to stay pregnant. His office staff is hands down one of the best I've ever met! Be diagnosed me and told me what to go to Braverman with and so now I have my miracles!

Re: Dr. Alex Kofinas

I had a consult with him shortly after I delivered twins at 21 weeks. He did a full blood work up and met with me and DH for about an hour to go over everything and give me a protocol of what to do for my next cycle. I followed his directions and was his patient through out my pregnancy, DS will be 2 in October.

The man is a genius.

I will say, DH did not like him at our first meeting. He thought him to be a bit cold and like a know-it-all. I followed my gut and stayed with him and DH says it's the best decision I've ever made. He's very thorough at every appointment, I never felt rushed or like my questions were silly. Honestly, I can't recommend him enough!

If you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer them.

I remember when you lost the twins...so sorry. Glad Kofinas was able to help you get your son. Were you with a RE also or just worked with Kofinas? I'm already on a lot of immune meds so I'm wondering what else he could possibly suggest. I feel like I'm doing and have done so much.

Thank you.

I worked with an RE because I have PCOS, I've only gotten pregnant through IVF. Many of the things Kofinas found (blood clotting disorder, NK cells) by RE shook her head at. She wasn't a fan of Kofinas, but he told me that she wouldn't be when I told him who my RE was. I still did what he told me to do, I just didn't tell her that I was under his care since she was so adamantly against it.

Got it. My RE is totally on board with immune. I have an immune issue. I'm already on a ton of immune meds so not sure if there is anything else Kofinas will suggest that I'm not doing but its worth a shot.

Dr. Alex Kofinas

Dr. Kofinas also works with immune disorders?! What does he do that Braverman doesn't do, and what does braverman do that he doesn't?? I know Kofinas doesn't take many insurances and neither does Braverman. Braverman seems to be a lot of money out pocket, is Kofinas just as much? I'm sooo confused!!

Hi. So after posting this I did got to Dr. Kofinas. I have out of network benefits so he takes my insurance but I had to pay a deductible. He manages pregnancies. My insurance doesn't cover Braverman at all. From what I heard his costs are VERY high. Kofinas sent me for many tests. The ones through reprosource were partially covered by my insurance. The tests from Quest seem to be covered as of now but we'll see. I did those tests in August and no bills yet. In all it was 44 vials of blood. Based on my history and my test results he came up with a protocol for me to use while cycling. If I get pregnant and it sticks this time around I'll have him manage my pregnancy and medications.

Re: Dr. Alex Kofinas

I’m a patient of both and their blood work is not that different. There was not much Kofinas wanted to run since I brought my Braverman results (and he said to me... why are you here if you’re seeing Jeff?). I just wanted a second set of eyes to check everything since this is probably our last try and I have good OON coverage so I don’t pay anything for the visit.

I would say that if getting pregnant is not your issue, Kofinas is more affordable and a great option. If you have trouble getting and staying pregnant, Braverman may be a better choice.

Braverman typically manages for first 12 weeks of pregnancy and then turns you over to Kofinas.

Both offices willl gladly verify your insurance and tell you what you would owe $ for a consult and other services before booking. If you have any other specific questions, feel free to ask!

This is it. If you have trouble getting pregnant, then Braverman is the one to go to/reoccurent loss.

I am currently seeing Kofinas. I never went to Braverman. It was way too money and I didnt have a problem getting pregnant the first time, I had a stillborn. Kofinas pretty much runs the same tests.

After I had my stillborn, I wanted to run to Braverman. But a friend said "slowwwwwwww down. go to kofinas first". and I did. and hes been amazing.
