Re: "Checking into" a funeral on Facebook....
Beyond tacky and extremely disrespectful. I also do not understand why people need to take pictures at graves either.
I had someone video his grandmother's grave side service and her being lowered. WHY would you want that captured forever and WHY are you sharing it with your entire network.
There is no common sense left.

Re: "Checking into" a funeral on Facebook....
Not appropriate. FIL died on Friday, and we notified everyone the old fashioned way, by phone call. We did not post on FB, but a lot of people did by offering their condolences. I don't think that to be appropriate either.

I feel like we shouldn't be surprised anymore I was in a wedding years ago (when FB was still new) and the groom actually updated his status between the ceremony and receiving line to say he got married.

I could see handing your phone to your Best Man (or any assigned person), and having *them* update your status, but sadly, I doubt that's what happened...

Re: "Checking into" a funeral on Facebook....
Disrespectful and horrible.
Same goes for people who post pictures of gravesites at every holiday. NOTHING screams "I am an attention whore" more

Re: "Checking into" a funeral on Facebook....
I have another good one that popped up on my newsfeed today because someone liked it.
This guy apparently got injured riding his bike. It was apparently serious enough for an ambulance to be called. But apparently not THAT serious because he has a series of pictures of EMS loading him into the ambulance (big smile on his face the whole time) then a view from out the back window of the ambulance as they drove him to the hospital. Then pics in the ER laying on the gurney waiting to be seen, etc.
Yeah.
I wonder what people would do if the cellular network in our country went down for a day. How would anyone survive?
It's kind of scary how addicted people are to social media

I wonder what the hell happens to these people to make them crave THAT much attention. Is it something from childhood? I don't get it.

DH was telling me about an article he read or a show he watched about social media and how it is similar to an addiction. That the brain response of people getting likes and comments is similar to the high you get from drinking, eating sugar, gambling etc. That people end up craving that kind of attention and validation in a very real, almost addiction like way.

I completely believe this! People are crazy. I can't even go on FB anymore because some of my friends (yes, actual friends) are so needy for likes and attention that it makes me not want to be friends with them anymore so I'm better off staying away. Really, we need to know that you have a stomach virus....are you throwing up in between posts??
Wow. Very interesting.

When I know someone is so desperate for attention like that I flat out refuse to like or comment on their pointless attention seeking BS. If everyone would do that, they would stop. Because they wouldn't be getting the attention and validation they so desperately need. But people continue to like and comment on it, so it just continues on

That is the tackiest most "look at me" thing a person can do on Facebook. I have literally deleted people for that.

I unfriended someone from FB when they checked into FB at a funeral and then took "happy" and "sad" selfies in front of the funeral home. It was the mother/grandmother's funeral.

oh my god!
although, I did once post a picture of the honor guard at my uncles funeral because i thought it was an amazing/beautiful sight. It was this group called the Patriot Riders and they are veterans who go to other veterans funerals and provide a motorcycle escort and stand at the wake, funeral and cemetery. It was so moving, my family felt so honored.

Re: "Checking into" a funeral on Facebook....
In other, Look at me/attention seeking news, I just had one pop up on my newsfeed of a woman lying in bed "sleeping" (but you could tell she wasn't really sleeping because she had a smile on her face) apparently topless but with just a bed sheet wrapped around her boobs and the title was:
I survived my surgery
Really? We need to see a picture of you fake sleeping wearing nothing on top?
A simple post saying- "hey guys thanks for the good thoughts and wishes, the surgery went well and am home resting now" wouldn't have been enough to let friends and family know you were ok? They need the picture as proof?
I swear this thread should be pinned to the top so we can just add the daily bullshitt seen on social media!
It's truly entertaining! And sad....

We should pin it! The things I see daily are mind boggling -- yet I can't look away!
