Disney Cruise??

I've never been on any cruise. I don't know if I'd really like cruising.
But, thanks to commercials, DD1 is asking to go on a Disney cruise and it does look fun.
If you've done a Disney cruise, what am I looking at in costs - decent size room, or connecting rooms for a family of 5 and any extras we need to pay?

Price depends on a variety of factors - when you go, how long you go for, etc... It's a lot cheaper if you go during off peak times. Prices are also lowest the day new cruises are released.

It's good to go through a travel agent because they may be able to get you on board credit (we didn't when we booked because I didn't know that at the time).

We went last year and it was fabulous.

Best thing to do would be to go on disney cruise website and do a mock booking to get an idea of cost. Its pretty $$$

Re: Disney Cruise??

Our 1st cruise ever was a Disney cruise in 2016 and it was amazing!!! My boys loved it and ask to go again all the time. The price can be high but for us it was worth it considering all that is included. The number of days and time of year dictate how high the price is. They do sometimes offer slightly lower rates closer to sailing if there is still a lot of availablity, those are called GT rates I believe.

We went in July for 7 nights which is peak season - we live in FL and they had a florida resident rate (which is a great discount) and for 2 adults, a 6 year old and a 2 year old (doesn't pay full child fare) in a verandah room it was $6800 not including gratuities and excursions. Once you add in gratuities and excursions (we did one at every port) we spent over $8,000, close to 9.

I think the least expensive time to go is January and February.

We love the Disney cruise. With a family of 5 it's going to be a pretty penny though. You would need a room with a Murphy bed. It's very easy to go on the site and price it out

we've been on 3 Disney cruises so far- and just booked another one for next January. they really are an awesome family vacation!! just something for everybody.they spoil you rotten with the service, so much fun stuff for the kids to do, great adults only restaurant and pool area.
if you've never done any cruises before, i would start with a 3 or 4 night one, that way if it ends up not being your "thing", its at least a shorter trip.
their site makes it easy to prince things out- so play around on there with where you think you might want to go and when, and see what comes up. PRETTY SOON the prices for summer and fall of 2019 will come out--- so you might want to check out those prices. Their cruises are usually the cheapest on the day or two after the prices are released. PLUS, then you have 18 months to make payments and the price doesn't hit you as hard HAHAHAHA feel free to PM me- love talking Disney! Chat Icon

We did a 4 night Disney cruise last year in March. 4 nights was more than enough for us; we’re just not cruise type of people. We had been on previous cruises before DD, so we knew that ahead of time.I believe we paid almost $3k for our verandah room with a balcony. We are a family of 3 but my husband wanted a bigger room. Our room slept 5 (a queen bed, bunk beds and a murphy bed. The room was small even for just us 3.

I love cruising, and I love Disney - but I don't love Disney cruising. IMHO, it's way too expensive for what you get. DH has been pricing out Alaska for the last several years because he really wants to go. He thinks DD would enjoy it more if it was a Disney cruise instead of another line. The difference in price is more than $1500 per person. For our family of three that amounts to $4500 more than Celebrity. For a Caribbean trip the price difference between Disney and other cruise lines isn't quite that stark, but it's still significant, and to me just not worth it.

We did Alaska on older Holland America ship with two kids and they loved it. We decided to put money towards excursions and they actually really enjoyed camp because there weren't too many kids.

This is us. I have been on a Disney Cruise. I did not find it was worth the extra cost. Food and service were worse than Norwegian and Carnival. Kids always had a blast. I concluded that we would instead go to Disney and then take another cruise (next time).
But for a family of 5, cruising becomes $$$.
