Temperature of water in schools

With the flu outbreak and trying to prevent the spread of germs, why do all the schools I have been in on LI have no running hot water ...just cold water. Doesn't washing with warm water and soap prevent germs? Is it me or does anyone else notice this?

Well, the rubbing action is what gets rid of the germs. Soap foams better and makes rubbing easier with warm water. But cold water will still get the germs off, if they are washing properly.

I think any water hot enough to kill germs would seriously burn you. Cold water should work fine.

I was going to say the warm water is probably a safety thing so kids don't burn themselves.

Yes this too. As an example, the water in our Ladies room sinks at work was always freezing cold recently. We complained and they had a plumber come up and "fix" it. Well after that the water was so scalding I couldn't even wash my hands in it for more than 2 seconds. I'd go down the line of sinks trying to find some cooler water, but nothing but scalding hot. (The faucets are touchelss and you can't control hot vs. cold mix)

I complained again and htey came back and turned off all the hot water and now they are back to freezing. I guess there is no in between?? But at least I can wash my hands in it again.

So I think sometimes these sinks in schools, etc are hard to control the temperature mix and using hot water might be a hazard.
