Frontier and Cancellations
Anyone fly Frontier and know if they cancel a lot?
I found out that Frontier is now offering nonstop from Islip to Myrtle Beach on certain days ( 1 nonstop flight on Tuesdays, Thursday, Sundays) and I found cheap tickets if I fly from a Tuesday to a Tuesday ($49 each way).
I am just nervous since it's a new route and I've never flown with them before. Like if they don't have enough people to fill up the flight, if they would cancel.
Anyone have experiences with Frontier, do they often cancel/delay?

Yes - but, so is Spirit. I say go for it!
But, I had the same reservations as well when I booked with Allegiant last year for the first time. I kept on telling myself how much worse can it be than Spirit???

My parents have been flying the Islip to Tampa route and have never been cancelled. Delayed yes but always got out.

Re: Frontier and Cancellations
I’ve flown Frontier a few time from ISP to MCO. The flights have never been cancelled. We were delayed once, but that can happen with any airline. They provided us a $50 credit vochure for future travel. Definitely worth it!

Frontier and Cancellations
A lot of my friends have been flying Frontier lately, and no issues! With one flight a day, it's likely going to be booked up, so I would just book it!

Re: Frontier and Cancellations
I personally wouldn't book so far in advance since they are canceling routes out of Islip. If you're looking to do a quick last minute getaway then ok. They have an article on Newsday.com today about the issue customers are facing with route cancellations and overall flight delays.

Re: Frontier and Cancellations
I have flown them from Islip to Florida about three times since they started in Islip in October. My flights both ways for all three trips were never cancelled. Some were delayed. Most of the delays were around 15 minutes.

Re: Frontier and Cancellations
My in-laws have used them 4 or 5 times to fly from ISP to FL. They never have an issue. And when they're getting $29 -$49 flights, it's hard to pass up!

They just announced this route so I don’t think they will cancel it so soon.

Frontier and Cancellations
My husbanf and 10 other guys had a flight booked to New Orleans for June. A week after they booked the flight they got an email that their flight was changed and they were no longer able to fly back Sunday afternoon. They had to do Saturday night. They called up and had to argue for their money back because they weren’t coming home Saturday night.

And shit like this is why I won't do it. My vacation is too important to me to deal with rinky dink airlines. I don't go away often- when I do I don't mind paying more for a decent airline to avoid this crap. Travelling and airports and flights are stressful enough- I'll pay more to avoid this kind of added stress.

Re: Frontier and Cancellations
Just to add, I have used them to visit family. Not sure how I would feel about using them for a vacation where I have a hotel booked and a big trip ahead. For a quick trip to Florida, for me, the lower prices are worth it.

Yes they just added it but if they are having trouble with sales of routes they will drop the route or cancel flights. All airlines do it but Frontier and Spirit has been doing it more frequently.

Re: Frontier and Cancellations
Thanks all for the feedback, for now I think I will wait it out... other airlines that go there nonstop from NY are currently expensive (Spirit and Delta) but I have no clue how Frontier's route is going to operate because they do not start service to Myrtle Beach until May 20th, so I can't even check past performance.
Other thing that scares me is that they only have 1 flight out a day on Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday. If our flight on Tuesday going home is cancelled or very delayed we are screwed because DH would have to go into work that night.

Myrtle Beach is likely to be a hugely popular route from here, so I wouldn't be worried about cancellations. A bunch of my friends took different flights on various days on Frontier this week, and the longest delay was like 20 minutes, which happens on a lot of airlines.

So we flew Frontier this morning to Disney....6am flight and was on time. Cost me $39 Each and I booked it a few days ago. Seamless and was a brand new plane. I would fly them again!

Re: Frontier and Cancellations
You have to remember though that everything is extra on frontier. I got my mom a last minute flight from Miami to islip for $121...but then we had to pay $40 each way for a carry on bag! And $17 each way for a seat in the middle of the plane (the cheapest seats were $13 in the back...and $50 in the front). It was still a bit cheaper than other airlines, but not as cheap as we thought.

I only paid $10 for my seat in row 15 and we don't do carry on...thay was more expensive. We checked 2 bags for $30 each. We aren't flying them home though since we have miles on Delta.

I paid 15 for row 2 which is extra leg room and it reclines. Seat costs vary quiet a bit depending on when you book
