Re: Does anyone think this is as strange as I do?
I think its strange, but more the leaving the kid home all the time.
I personally think couple trips are nice, as with multiple family trips. I don't think I could do that for all my trips... Its fun for a while then eventually its too much togetherness and I get irritated by other people's parenting styles and vacation styles and want to be done. I'm also a PITA as well.
I'm sure i'm not normal either.

If we were all the same, we’d be boring.
This works for them.

Re: Does anyone think this is as strange as I do?
IDK, just based on what your wrote, I don't think it's weird. Maybe the HM thing is weird but I don't think it's weird to vacation with others. I like to vacation with other people because, for us, it's more fun. We just went away with friends of ours and had a total blast. They made us do activities that DH and I probably wouldn't have done on our own and we really had a great time.
As for leaving the kid home all the time, basically on a quarterly basis, I don't know if I would leave my kids home all the time like that but if I could squeeze out 2 vacays a year, child free, I would be all over that. I would bring my kids the other 2 times though.

Does anyone think this is as strange as I do?
My parents have always traveled with someone, except for maybe their honeymoon. Every vacation is with friends or with family for as long as I can remember. We always vacationed with our cousins growing up. I see nothing wrong with that if that is what they like. Leaving their child at home for almost every trip, that I do have issue with but it's not my life.

We always vacation with others, whether its close friends or family. In my opinion, its just more fun that way. We went away alone for our honeymoon obviously and we did dutch wonderland with just us and the kids once, lol...but more often than not we go with other people.
I also dont judge people for spending time away from their kids regularly, to each their own - yet its not something we do personally, we both have a hard time being away from them, maybe within driving distance for a couple days, buts thats about it. Maybe when they are older.

My in laws are like this. They don’t vacation frequently but why go with someone 90% of the time. It’s weird. And someone is always there for dinner since all the kids moved out. They can’t handle being alone together.

We went away twice with just us 3. It was hard. DS wants to play and we want to vacation. It's a conflict. If I could we would go away with other families with kids so they could play. Or we would leave him home and go alone. Neither is really an option though.

I only like to vacation with DH and my kids, for the most part. We've done vacations where we've gone with friends or some family but it's a different kind of vacation when you do that. It's more compromise, more planning, and a little more chaotic IMO. I much prefer it to be just DH, the kids and me.

Really? To each his own I guess. I would never choose a vacation with my parents over a vacation with my DH. lol He is much more fun!!

I mainly feel bad for the child. That is a lot of going away without your LO.

Does anyone think this is as strange as I do?
I have friends just like this. They never are with their children. They are always with people drinking. Always going on vacation. On top of it, Every weekend, kids are with their grandparents. I think it is sh*tty. Kids are young once and should be enjoyed.
I do think it is odd as well.

Wow that is really effed up. If you want to live a childless lifestyle, don't have kids. It's not for everyone. And that's fine.
But you can't have your cake and eat it too

Agreed. Our relationship changed a ton. We used to be close with them. Now I just sit there and feel bad for their kids. I kid you not, every year she is like "Oh, my new years resolution is to be a better Mom."
No joke.
