Severely chapped lips? What's good?
DD's lower lip is awful! It's so badly chapped that it's bleeding in spots. This never ending winter, the fact that it's windier here than the windy city, and the fact that I think she licks her lips a lot, are wrecking havoc.
Chapstick isn't cutting it.
I tried using Vaseline the other night, but I'm not sure it does much other than be heavy and thick maybe coat it.
Anything good to actually heal it?
It looks awful

Agree with vaseline. I make him put it on when he gets home and through out the evening.
I also bought my son several chapsticks to use during the day. Sometimes he does and a lot of times he doesn't, which, is why his lips always look horrible.

Re: Severely chapped lips? What's good?
The derm told us to use aquafor. They make a tube that’s made for lips. Vaseline made my dd’s lips worse.

I do aquafor. We put it on as soon as they brush their teeth in the morning and before bed plus anytime I notice them messing with their lips.

Re: Severely chapped lips? What's good?
For myself, I used to use the little Blistex pots. I would get DCT, my favorite, or I would get the blue one.
My DD gets very dry lips, but so far I just use original chapstick. I put it on in the morning and before bed. As long as I do it consistently, it works.

Coconut oil.
But whatever you use apply generously at night since that's when it's least likely to rub off. Also apply right after the shower to lock in moisture.
Another reason winter blows...

We use Vaseline at night too. And I only use the real chapstick brand. All the kid "chapsticks" don't work at all! We do that during the day and the vasaline at night. I sometimes reapply the vasaline on her lips before I go to bed while she's sleeping.

We use a couple of drops of jojoba oil every night and morning. If it is really bad, or if they are congested (and more likely to mouth-breathe while sleeping) then I top it with a little bit of aquaphor at night.

The best thing is Vaniply. My dermatologist recommended it to me a few years ago. It's not so easy to find, though, and it's not cheap on Amazon, but it's worth it!

Just googled this and it looks great even for my severely itchy skin. I just scratched my back to the point of bleeding this weekend and then 3 days later scratched it again and the scabs opened and bled again. I'm a mess.
I might get this for her and me

Thanks. I am prone to eczema and just genearlly itchy, rashy skin. The winter kills me. People see scratches on my arms, legs etc and think my cat did it. I tell them my cat has never once put a claw on me, this is ALLLLL me.

Try coconut oil. Vaseline is a petroleum by product, I would never use. Also you can buy nice products at the health food store. Like a combo of oils and beeswax which have such healing properties - even easily make your own if you’re motivated.
Also make sure she is drinking tons of water! Hydration starts on the inside, but I get it, my daughters skin under her bottom lip is so red and when she wakes in the am her lips crack and bleed too.

Severely chapped lips? What's good?
When I was on Acutane, my lips would crack and bleed constantly. It was embarrassing and super painful. Everyone, including my dermatologist, told me to use Aquaphor. I did, but it just wasn’t cutting it at all. Desperate, I bought something at Sephora and OMG it was like finding a giant pot of gold! Smith’s Rosebud Salve is absolutely incredible. It was the only thing that stop the cracking and bleeding. It comes in a little round tin and it lasts forever (and it’s only $6 or $7).

Just ordered it. My DS's lips are super chapped and nothing seems to work.

Severely chapped lips? What's good?
Ok- it smells disgusting but it is the BEST by far- Bag Balm for lips. It's in a tube like Carmex etc, but omg does it work instantly. I have severely chapped hands and heels, and Bag balm is the only thing that has worked. The lip one is awesome too
