If you do an egg hunt in your yard...
When do to hide the eggs?
Real or plastic eggs?

Plastic eggs filled with candy and small toys.
I go out after she goes to bed the night before. With a flashlight.

Re: If you do an egg hunt in your yard...
If you hide them with candy in them in your yard, be careful. If the eggs have the holes in the bottom (most do for choking purposes), then ants can crawl right in them! Happened to us last year! We participated in an event where someone hid the eggs on the lawn and there was candy in them. Covered in ants. OMG my kids were FREAKING out when they opened them

Re: If you do an egg hunt in your yard...
We do plastic eggs filled with candy or coins. Some have a slip of paper that mean you get to pick a prize from the prize bag.
We do the hunt at my mom's during easter dinner so the older kids (teens) usually hide them right before the hunt.

I’m doing plastic but I’m going to assume based on this azzcrazy weather I’ll be hiding them in my house... I’ll likely put them out in the morning before they get up IF we have no snow on the ground

omg yuck! DS would be traumatized! I never even considered bugs getting into them. I don't usually do candy because the kids get enough candy in their Easter basket but occasionally I'll run out of stuff to fill the eggs and then I will just stuff the rest with whatever I can find. I put various amounts of $, small toys, tattoos and stickers in our eggs.
To answer the OP
We do a group egg hunt with our whole family. DH hides the plastic eggs in the morning while the kids open their baskets. In our family, all the kids are really young so they don't really have that awareness of what's going on around them yet lol. I'm sure we'll have to start hiding them at night once the kids are a little older and start to wonder where Dad went lol. Since they are young, the eggs aren't really hidden well either. Kinda randomly placed behind things, but still out in the open.

Or under snow banks. That could be fun- dig up the eggs, then build a snow easter bunny Yay!

We do plastic eggs filled with candy. However, the Easter Bunny leaves them with their baskets with instructions for Daddy to hide the eggs. LOL. Daddy hides them while we are getting dressed.
We had to do it that way because one year the sun was to hot and the candy melted. So now we say that the Easter Bunny needs help, so Daddy helps him.

The bunny hides the dyed real eggs in the house. I tell them to go do something while I hide the plastic eggs with candy outside. We have too many raccoons and animals around us for me to feel comfortable leaving them outside overnight.

Man I wish we had the problem of the sun being too hot this year. If anything the candy will freeze!

Never in the yard. I hide the eggs all over the house when the kids go to bed.

This is what I usually do also, but in recent years I've printed an egg scavenger hunt (google) and the clue goes in each egg, then it leads them to their baskets.

We hide them in the yard in the morning right before they go out to search for them. They don't think the Easter Bunny hides them.in our house the bunny bring s the basket but we fill and hide the eggs.

We hide plastic eggs with wrapped candy and coins. We hide the eggs, not the "Easter Bunny".

Re: If you do an egg hunt in your yard...
Lol, reading these previous posts, we’ve learned through thr years, we always hide them right before the hunt, and we only stuff them with chocolate that’s really well glued/ sealed all around (not lightly wrapped/glued). We examine how they are wrapped, the really mini mars brand ones are usually good (snickers, 3 musketeers). Hard for bugs to get into the actual candy! The Hershey miniature just has a dot of glue - not sealed enough!

We had the same experience, it was terrible. I liked the idea of a fundraiser but I didn’t expect unwrapped jelly beans in the eggs. We threw them all out after we opened the first one with ants

We used to hide the real eggs outside until last year. Something ate a bunch of them.
All that was left was the smashed shell.

Re: If you do an egg hunt in your yard...
growing up my mom always hid our real eggs in the house and plastic outdoors. I only hide plastic outside now and I do it was like the crack of dawn with a flash light. I don't hide the real eggs anymore because of our dogs.

I hide the "easter bunny eggs" in the house... Then we go outside with plastic eggs and they know we hid those as a game. So we do both.

Re: If you do an egg hunt in your yard...
We only hide the plastic eggs typically inside if it's just my 2 DC. If it's going to be my neices and nephews as well, I try to sneak out and hide them in the backyard. I remember my mom hiding the real eggs in our house once and she forgot where one was hidden but knew we were short an egg. Needless to say, we smelled it a few days later!

If you do an egg hunt in your yard...
I wake up early and hide plastic eggs in the yard with chocolate, coins, one dollar for each child, tiny toys like an eraser...then I hide two big eggs with a toy inside like a small action figure or something along those lines. And a basket with little things. I usually wake them up by yelling something like, you guys will not believe this!! That sneaky bunny did it again! Not sure it will work this year as they are older!
