Who thinks up what to cook?

I cook for myself and DS. DH is on his own. He would have PB &J everyday and he doesn’t eat healthy so he’s on his own.

I also dont cook everyday. I cook on Sunday’s and then dependin in the week another day.

Me. Whenever In ask for input from dh it's always the same three meals.

Same here, and it doesn't help that he is extremely picky.

Re: Who thinks up what to cook?

I do, but I will say he takes over cooking for spring/summer with grilling, thank God because cooking gets to be such an awful chore after awhile! But I always plan the meals, he sometimes will ask for me to put something on the “menu” but he eats everything so he’s a lot easier to cook for than my kids!

Re: Who thinks up what to cook?

Me.
Once in a blue moon DH will ask for something specific. Other than that it is me who plans dinner and weekend lunches.
Freaking annoying.

Re: Who thinks up what to cook?

So glad I’m not the only one! Dh does do the grocery shopping so I can’t complain too much. It’s just extra hard bc dh has stomach issues so I’m limited on what I can make to begin with. I was so at a loss for what to make tonight that I just wrote down “something for tonight and a veggie” and he came through! Pork tenderloin!

We kind of eat the same things over and over lol rotisserie chicken/ rice and broccoli one to twice a week. Pizza from Costco once, fish /rice/ and broccoli once a week, Chinese food one night, and either tacos or Greek food on a Friday. So cooking happens only 2-3 nights

Re: Who thinks up what to cook?

It’s pretty evenly split. I do the food shopping about 95% of the time (I’m a SAHM) but he knows I go on Mondays so he’ll usually mention if there’s something specific he’d like us to have that week, or lets me know if there’s something he’d like to cook and which ingredients we need. If he doesn’t suggest anything, I just wing it while I’m at the store based on what looks good.

Who thinks up what to cook?

I plan and cook all lunches and dinners. I have a love/hate relationship with it. I like preparing meals as them I know they are healthy. Sometimes though, it would be nice to have a break. I think I might start making him in charge of one weekend dinner. During the week, I get home before him and starving by the time he comes home so waiting for him to prep a meal would never work. I prepare most meals on Sunday which helps during the week but still sucks.

Re: Who thinks up what to cook?

I love to meal plan, prep, grocery shop and cook. It’s all really soothing to me.

I do ask his input on things, and sometimes he’ll make suggestions or have a request for something, but he’s conscious of the time constraints: he’s not going to tell me he’s in the mood for something that takes 2 hours of prep work when we have a busy schedule or anything like that. Every once in awhile, he’ll see that I’ve had a long day or just wants to give me a break and he takes the reigns in the kitchen.

We have breakfast at home, I pack lunches every day, and we order in/go out a couple times a week. My kitchen is constantly being used.

I come home to a clean home every day and barely ever have to do laundry, thanks to DH Chat Icon

Who thinks up what to cook?

I dont even bother asking what he wants because he will just say whatever is easier for you since I do all the food shopping and cooking.

I base my week's meals on what is on sale in the circular and I cook enough to have leftovers for the next night. I cant be bothered with cooking everyday and as long as DH and DS have a hot meal they are happy.

Re: Who thinks up what to cook?

We get home at the same time 5:30/6:00 and DD is in bed by 8 so it doesn't leave much time. So we have a few set meals that we eat each week- tacos, quesadillas, baked chicken/mashed potatoes, pizza, stir fry, chicken parm. Sometimes we're just too wrecked or home later than usual and we make DD mac and cheese and don't even eat or eat cold cuts or PB&J sandwiches. In the summer we grill more- chicken, hot dogs, burgers and that's DH's job.

If we ever try anything new, it's on me though. I like to try recipes I find on Pinterest every once in awhile. Some stick, some don't.

My DH has NOTHING to do with the cooking. I love to cook so I do all of the meal planning and cooking. He isn't picky though and eats whatever I make him, no complaints.

Re: Who thinks up what to cook?

it's nowhere near 50/50, but SO does do a good amount of shopping, planning, and cooking.

sometimes, i wish he'd stay away from the kitchen. he has an opinion about everything and it drives me nuts to hear him complain about something he's eaten a million times... but since this time he's watching me make it, suddenly everything is wrong with the dish. go away!

Due to work schedules, I plan, prep and cook. I enjoy it. In the summer DH's hours change and he usually likes to BBQ a lot.

The mental burden.

This also comes up when I get stuck at work or am real stressed. I say order something. And there’s 50 million questions on what. Just make food appear, like I do 360 days a year.

Sorry, I feel your pain.

Exactly!!!!

I would even welcome requests when I'm making my weekly menu. Like sometimes I'll make something i haven't made in a while and he'll comment how much he likes it. Remind me when I'm struggling dude!

Re: Who thinks up what to cook?

DH often cooks dinner & has it ready when I get home from work, other nights I make something quick when I get home if he didn't get a chance to do it, or we heat up leftovers. Sometimes we text during the day about what to make that night. We grocery shop together most of the time. We make really simple things (salads, beans, rice, etc... nothing too elaborate).

Yes, go away is what I say. My SO learned that early on. I’m perfectly happy to have him watch TV while I prepare dinner.

So who takes out the garbage in your (collective you) relationship? I don’t do that much. I leave it for SO. Then again we have too many receptacles for garbage here. I let him sort it out and that’s fine. It’s probably akin to how we plan out dinners, etc.

I actually ask my 2 y/o DD for more input than my DH. Chat Icon Like last night I asked her if she wanted tacos or mashed potatoes. She vehemently decided mashed potatoes.... then cried for 15 minutes because they weren't ready IMMEDIATELY. Chat Icon
