Trying new things
I’m going to embrace being single on the weeks I don’t have DS by trying out new things. I’ve already taken an improv workshop, and I go dancing regularly but I’m looking for some suggestions.
What are some non-adrenaline things (skydiving, bungee jumping, etc) that you’d like to try if you had the opportunity? Doesn’t need to be something specifically to meet people - just something you’d like to experience.

I would like to try soul cycle or a pure barre class. Sometimes i see interesting courses offered through the library and the town that seem interesting.

Trying new things
I started running 2 years ago. I’m not fast but I find I enjoy the alone time training for races. I have since joined 2 running clubs and have met amazing people. The one group is National so when I’m in another city running we get to meet up.

In the summer they have free kayaking on the Hudson. It's really cool!

Trying new things
I’d really like to volunteer for local charities. Some of my new coworkers are involved in homeless outreach programs and I’d love to help out where I can.

Martial arts - my dream would be to get a black belt in Kung Fu, always has been. Right now I just take the kickboxing class. If you go to a private school not a chain, you can get a real sense of family.
My husband and I got into the Spartan Races.. you get a strong sense of support when you are racing. Even joined some FB groups and you can tell people made alot of friends doing this. And by no means are we super fit people for OCR.

Re: Trying new things
Volunteering for sure.
I know you aren't local but I have taken rides with Bike New York before. They sponsor free organized rides throughout the city. Maybe there is something like that near you.

I'd get to the gym look into learning how to sail so I could join a racing boat wander around NYC (used to do this in my 20's and loved it) enjoy a clean house while spread out on my couch

Re: Trying new things
I was always into fitness, but after my divorce I got seriously into bodybuilding.
I love it. I have met so many people doing it. It takes a lot of time and dedication but its amazing and so much fun.
I compete a few times a year.

I would definitely check out groupon or living social. We have done sailing lessons, gelato making, painting, cooking, and brewery tours.

Re: Trying new things
thank you for this thread.
it reminded me of something i've been wanting to do and had put on the back burner. not so much learning something new, but more of a bucket list type item.
because of this thread, i'll be watching Casablanca at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on my birthday!

Re: Trying new things
For me:
-cooking classes -Pilates on the reformer -walking long distances -wine tasting -food shows and going to them to learn about the new trends -I’d like to learn how to use a sewing machine. I can sew by hand since I was 5, but I would really love to learn how to use a machine. My grandma had an old Singer from like 1930 with the pumping foot pedal. -rent a fancy car for the day -learn another language. It seems everyone speaks like 4+ languages here. -Have SO come with me to NY. He met my mom when she was here, but I’d like him to meet everyone. I think he is a bit scared, though. My family is big. My ex never even met some family members (we were married 10 years), and he just sort of gave up after a while. -Doing a camper van trip with SO.
It’s a short list, and I would love to put travel more, but right now, I need to focus on other things.
