Dogs who don't shed or smell?

Do they exist? I had a dog in the past that shed like crazy and smelled 5 minutes after he returned from the groomer LOL Please recommend your sweet smelling no shedding dog so my family has a chance of having a pup someday :)

I have a shih tzu. She doesn't shed. They have hair and not fur.

She usually smells pretty good until there is a scent outside that she needs to cover. Then she smells! Chat Icon

We joke around that my AmStaff terrier (pitbull) sheds less than the 4 humans in the house... Chat Icon

We lie with our head on her all the time (one reason I like bigger dogs.... Chat Icon ), and there's no smell at all.

I agree with Shih Tzu. Never shedded and never smelled.

Your dog is an anomoly.

My pit sheds as much as my golden retriever/collie mix and her farts could kill a man. Chat Icon

Re: Dogs who don't shed or smell?

Any hair dog won’t shed

Shihtzu
Yorkie
Maltese
Poodle
Bichon
Havanese
Westie
Wheaten
And any mixes of these. Sometimes a cockapoo won’t shed but you never know because one parent is a shedder (cocker spaniel)

When it comes to smelliness lol ...
it really depends on the dog. If they have allergies , they can smell more because the skin will dry and flake. Also the food they eat can cause stinky dog too. Almost all shihtzus get stinky around their eyes because they run a lot. And if you have your dog outside a lot, they get smelly faster.

You can do a wipe down with baby wipes when they come in from outside. That helps. Baths every 4-6 weeks. A lot of people groom their hair dogs every 6-8 weeks but some give a bath mid way through grooming (either themselves or bring in for a bath at groom shop)

Yorkies don't shed. They only smell when they need a bath or you don't brush their teeth.

We have a standard golden doodle and I’ve never found a hair from him yet! As far the smell I don’t notice anything extra than smelling like a dog.

My sister's shih tzus smell so quickly after they're bathed and groomed. Cockapoos don't shed and they smell very minimally (and are hypoallergenic).

My aunt has Weaton terriers and to me they stink and drool and lick you and are gross. Another has a bison poodle thing and he’s smaller but horrible breath and the same.

Re: Dogs who don't shed or smell?

We have a whoodle (Wheaton terrier/poodle mix). She doesn't shed but we get her groomed regularly (every 2 weeks). She doesn't smell between groomings and doesn't drool or anything gross. My daughter is highly allergic to dander and saliva and we haven't had many issues, as long as she doesn't let her lick her!

A Coton De Tulear! That is my dog and he’s the best! Doesn’t she’s and no smells
My other dog is a shitzu and she doesn’t shed but does sometimes smell as well as my sisters shitzu...he’s amazing but smells right after a bath! Something with his eyes causes the odor
I grew up with Bicshons and they are also the best breed! No shedding and no smells

I thought our rat terrier didn’t shed, but now that the weather is getting nicer she’s making a liar out of me. She’s only nine pounds though. As far as smell, she’s fine. She is the best dog though.

I used to have a Lhasa Apso and my parents have another Lhasa now. They don't shed and neither ever smelled.

You are right that Lhasas don’t really shed. I grew up with one. But they smell. And grooming for them is a pain.

Pugs (my mom’s dog) shed, but they don’t really smell. I’ll take shedding over smelling any day.

Get a cat. That’s my advice Chat Icon

We have a cavapoo. Although cavaliers are kind of shedding, the poodle in him supersedes it. We do keep his hair short though. But still...no more vacuuming now that we have him compared to before. I grew up with Shepherds who would shed new dogs every week. Having our dog now is a treat.

I've had cats as well. Depending on the breed, a cat sheds so much worse than a dog, and with the litterbox in the house, the smell is much worse than a dog.

I have a mini Australian labradoodle. She doesn't shed, she's hypoallergenic and doesn't smell.
She has an amazing disposition and great with the kids, other animals and people.
She's a big LOVE.

I agree with you on the fish, but sometimes the tank can have a certain smell to it. Yes, literboxes can stink, but the cats don’t actually smell. The shedding, eh. Just wear the right color clothing and all will be OK Chat Icon

If you don't want to deal with shedding and you don't want to deal with smells, then maybe a dog isn't for your family. I don't mean that to be harsh, but their are just certain things you need to accept when you add a dog to your family. All dogs smell. Some smell less if you put the work in to keep them groomed and clean, but some smell no matter what you do. That's one of the joys of dog ownership.

If non-shedding is important to you, don't go for any of the mixes. In my office, three of us have have goodlendoodles, and 2 out of the 3 shed. Mine sheds a ton even though he has a curly coat that looks like it wouldn't. Just because someone's doodle or whateverpoo doesn't shed, doesn't mean yours won't.

If you're going to purchase a pure breed dog, definitely research reputable breeders. Then you can go visit their dogs and learn about the breed. Most breeders love their breed and will be excited to teach you about it and will want to make sure the breed/dog is a good fit for you family. Then you can make sure you know what you're getting into before you commit to a dog.

We have an Italian Greyhound - no shedding, no smell but she's pretty delicate. My boys have grown up around her (she was here before they were) and they know how to play around her.
