School assemblies for Elementary

Hi all! So I am the PTA chairperson for assemblies at our school 1st - 5th.
I have asked before and got great ideas, but some were a little too old for them or deep.

I am starting to book for the next school year. There are so many rules we can and can't do of course. Can't bring in the same show unless it's over 5 years, etc.
We did a great laser light show for the holidays that played holiday music and can't seem to find something similiar or fun for the kids for Dec.
I think we have our Oct booked and some for winter/spring. I booked our June already. LOL

December is tough. Love to hear ideas of what your kids have seen. Thanks!

Re: School assemblies for Elementary

Ours school has an assembly once a month for the whole school. Sometimes it is motivational speakers, or speakers on conflict resolution for kids, then each level goes on one field trip for the year. Our school brought in penguins (live animals from the Camden aquarium) for kindergarten.
The bubble show is at night for families.
They bring in authors. Is year it was Dan Gutman and someone else for the younger kids who wrote books on mice in a library.
I don't remember the first grade field trip. Second grade goes to a local historical school and for a pick nick in a very large town park. Third grade goes to the Liberty Science Center. Fourth grade goes to the Franklin mining museum. Fifth grade goes to Philadelphia.

Our school does the Brain Show every year that the kids love, then at night we invite the families to come participate.

Hip Pickles was a great assembly. they do "music" on jugs and buckets and promote non bullying and kindness

My dds school just had Kerboom Kids (not sure if I'm spelling that right) and she said it was so much fun, the guy running it got all the kids up and dancing.

Awesome! We actually have a local circus coming the end of the school year this year, but have contacted the planetarium. It looks awesome. Just hope they can do it bc we have too many kids and they only do 5 shows that can fit 90 kids.

Thanks! Contacted Hip Pickles too for a holiday show and will see what happens from there. So many rules with the PTA on shows.

Re: School assemblies for Elementary

I'm in charge of Cultural Arts/Assemblies or my son's K through 6 school. These are the assemblies I did this year - I try to tie them into holidays/events/season/etc. when possible. We usually do a K-3 show and another one for grades 4-6.

We had the BFit show for Red Ribbon week - all about healthy choices (nutrition and exercise) with magic and comedy. The kids liked it.

We brought in Plaza Theatrical production to put on the musical show "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" last fall. It was great because it was a current Broadway show and based on a work of literature, so we (the PTA) bought each class a copy of the Roald Dahl novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. A lot of kids have never seen live theater, so they liked it.

I had Jared Campbell a singer/songwriter come in December and he does a character ed/anti-bullying/kindness program. The kids sing along. It was really very good!

We had Parents for Megan's Law come in early February. They did workshops (2 classes at a time) on sexual abuse prevention. It was totally age appropriate and very educational. They also did a parent workshop, which was free.

For PARP, I had Dan Yaccarino, an author and creator of TV characters come in to discuss his work as a children's author/illustrator. We did a book sale and he signed books for the kids. They really liked the exposure to a new "famous" author.

Last month I had Bash the Trash: Sustainable Sounds come for Earth Day. They make musical instruments from recycled materials and demonstrate them. It combines STEM/STEAM and environmental science with music.

We do a field day assembly... doing the Ultimate Human Board game.

Hope this helps!
