things to do in city with kids
I know there are older threads but for some reason the search didn't come up with anything.
I'll be in the city this weekend (finally graduating from Hofstra with a masters!!) and I'll have my 8 yo DS on Saturday morning. I'm staying on 36th St and I'm meeting STBX at the bottom of Central Park around 2. What's something fun for DS since it's supposed to rain? We've done Intrepid and the Natural History Museum.
Might be pushing it b/c of time, but is the Transit Museum worth it for an 8yo?

I recently took my son to the Ripley's in Times Square and he loved it. There is also this National Geographic Ocean Discovery thing that looks really great. I also just to my son to Ninja NYC which I believe is down in Chelsea. It was a lot of fun and he loved it.

Haha - we'll definitely be playing Pokemon since it's Community Day in the afternoon, but I didn't want my mom to get bored with us playing for hours and wanted to do something else with him. :)
I'll check out the suggestions - thanks!

How about heading downtown and going to the top of the Freedom Tower. That looks like a really cool thing to do and it's indoors. I think they also might have restaurants at the top that you could have lunch at.
I took my kids to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island in the fall and it was great but more of a full day activity and we needed to book the ferry tickets way in advance.

In case anyone is wondering - we went to Spyscape (in Times Square) and it was really fun. It was pricey but my 8 yo loved it. There are a lot of sections with museum stuff and information - history of code breaking, etc, and they also had fun stations to do activities. You wear a bracelet that scans you into each station and at the end it tells you what kind of spy you should be. I got spy handler. :) The best station was to hit as many buttons as possible while avoiding the lasers. You're in a dark room and there are monitors in the hall for your family to watch (and record) those inside. My son was dancing around b/c he didn't know we were watching so I got a great video. :D
