cruise to nowhere?
does this still exist? i'm finding conflicting things online. my friend wants to try it before booking a regular cruise. tia

No, they don't exist anymore. New laws dictate that they must stop at a port

I don't know if this would serve the same purpose but you can do a re-positioning cruise or a one-way. This way you cruise one -way and then get off the ship and can fly home right after. I believe that there are also cruises from NY to England (Queen Mary ships maybe?) that have primarily sea days but again, then you fly home.
Just bc a ship stops at a port doesn't mean you have to get off. Not sure how a cruise to nowhere would really differ from an itinerary that stops at one or more ports.

i think she just wanted to be on the boat for a day or so to see if she'd get seasick really, not necessarily for the ports etc.

The seasickness depends on where the ship is going. From NYC down, it’s eeally choppy so lots of people got seasick. From Florida, it’s a lot smoother.
A coworker of mine who was a frequent cruiser hated the cruise to nowhere and said it was a drunk fest (she liked same cruise line for regular cruises)... so maybe this is not the way to test out cruising anyway.

Since there are no more cruises to nowhere, I suggest booking a cruise to Bermuda. It is docked for days so she would not have to worry about the ship moving for most of the trip. I am prone to seasickness and I have vertigo and I take a bonnine every night when I sail. I have never gotten sick and we sailed through some doosies! There are also 3 or 4 days cruises out of Florida but are usually on smaller ships which really doesn't give you the experience on sailing on one of the newer ones. Its completely different. NY cruises tend to be more rocky and ones that are out of Florida tend to be smoother.

We sailed around hurricane Jose last fall in pretty huge seas, and I didn't get sick. I took bonine, it works great!
