Is this all the rage at your kids school too? Friends of my son, 3rd grade, are obsessed.
Aren’t these kids a bit young for this game?!? Yikes

Funny, so I thought my 3rd grader would say he never heard of it when I asked and he said yes, he played it at a friends house. I asked him what it's about and he said a shooting a dying game.
Just when I think I know everything. LOL!
I know at home he plays roadblocks on his IPad and we don't have any shooting games on Playstation or Wii.

Re: Fortnite

Yes, and I am not happy about it. My son played it as his friends house, and then they played it here. I had a long discussion with my kids about the game too.

Yup, obsessed. Its a shooting game yes, in that its a strategy/army game. However, there is NO blood or gore. I liken it more to GI Joe and much much much less like Call of Duty, which my DS in 5th is NOT allowed to play.

Re: Fortnite

I think they are all obsessed because it is a game that most of them can play with each other since it is free to download.

There are so many things that elementary aged kids are allowed to do that are completely not age appropriate...TV shows, movies, games, etc..... I'm always surprised at what I hear from some parents to be honest.

Re: Fortnite

I just saw this post but thank you that I’m not alone! I’ve been getting into so many fights with my 3rd grader about this game. He is no longer allowed at one of his friends houses since those parents won’t respect my wishes and think I’m overreacting.

I’m at a loss for words with parents these days, no 9 year old should be playing shoot to kill games, it’s seriously insane. He is my oldest so I am still trying to learn what’s overreacting and what’s not lol, but this I just can’t get behind at all and I’m not sure when I’ll be ok with these games.

My son is 11 and he plays it with his friends.

Regarding playing shoot to kill games, I am super, super, super anti-gun. I do not allow my son (and have never allowed him to play Call of Duty or any rated M games) in my home. However, I do not regulated what others do in their houses.

I think Roblox is "worse" because of the chat feature with strangers...so creepy

Totally agree. Roblox was blocked almost as soon as we tried it out. Definite Stranger Danger!

I really think it depends on your child and how they react to things. My DD takes everything literally and has a hard time understanding that things she sees on video games and you tube etc, are not real life so those games are off limits and she knows it and will not play at a friends house. That being said, every single boy in her class is obsessed with it. Last week they had a field trip and some of the boys didn't go so they can play Fortnite together all day.

Roblox stars out just about everything kids say that has anything identifying in it. Names, schools, towns, months, dates, etc. I was perusing on it the other day because I let my kids play it. My niece and my daughter chat with each other in their game, and you can't even make out what they are saying because everything is starred out! Chat Icon

Wait. Their parents allowed them to skip a school field trip so they could sit in the house and play video games all day?
Really?
Wow.
Our society is doomed.

You can turn the chat feature off as well as the friend request features.

Re: Fortnite

I told my 3rd grader no to Fortnite. My cousin's 15 year old son said it has open chat with no way to turn it off.

My 1st and 3rd grader play Roblox. The chat is turned off, and they can only friend people I know. I check it often to make sure they aren't chatting random people. I think it's better controlled.

YES!!! I removed it immediately after I installed it when I realized there was a chat feature on there! He isn't allowed to play it any longer. Thank goodness we have not reached the Fortnite craze - yet!

DS is 7 and for the most part not into any of the social media apps or gaming systems. He still likes watching YouTube videos of people building Lego sets and then animating them. So I consider myself lucky. The amount of children on Music-ly that I know makes me uneasy. Most of them are not private and the song choices and contents are not what I want my 7 year old saying or singing. I am always Chat Icon when I see these videos of these kids.

I plan on keeping my kids away from their own social media accounts for as long as I can. I don't care what the other kids have or are doing.

Bad mom here.... all 3 of my kids LOVE this game and its the ONE thing that they all do together happily. They are 15, 13, and 11 and seeing them do something together negates the bad.

I see nothing wrong with it. They know it is not real.

I told him today that he was only allowed Fortnite on weekends till after finals and you swore that I took food away or something - carrying on and on - and I explained this is like an addiction and we are breaking this habit now!
